Folks nowadays reduce things to surface-level aesthetics without really understand what makes them special. And this video is actually from 2003 so it definitely fits the “early 2000s” bill!

That’s really how I discovered 2 of these songs from that game in the first place

The game specifically was catalogue heaven and all the way back in like 2015, people kept repeatedly playing raining tacos with the golden boombox gear thing on a bunch of servers within the game because of how viral this song was at the time. And eventually, some other user was able to play love shine on one other server with no users around repeatedly playing raining tacos. And to this day, I’m still happy I found out about the song this way

They do have their own history and there are occasionally in story events in the game, but there's not a whole lot to know about them. They mainly exist to pose on posters advertising the latest games and run around in chibi form in event menus. I know the pink and green haired girls are twins named Celica and Erika, who used to be the most prominent of the bunch, but they haven't really been front and center for a while. Zilch and Tsugaru, the guy with the mohawk and the other green haired girl, are the mascots of the most recent version in Japan (although Zilch has gone through so many redesigns that you probably wouldn't recognize him anymore).
