I have a question about the heat transfer method. I have hard water, and have been adding citric acid to my lye water after it cools, this has really helped the soap scum my handmade soap makes. I had been adding it after it cooled, can I add it while it is still hot and I can still melt my hard oils with the hot lye water (this is the best way to do it, such a quicker process!) I was also wondering the same about sugar and sodium lactate in hot lye water. BEAUTIFUL soap!!!
@OpheliasSoapery
@OpheliasSoapery 2 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with using citric acid. You may have to join a soaping group and ask them. But for the sugar you would add it to your water and let it dissolve before you add your lye to it. And with sodium lactate just add it to your liquid oils. That’s what I did when I used it :)

My question isn't actually about making the soap, but about the clean up after. Do you wash up straight away, or wait for the batter to saponify? Do you hand wash, or use a dishwasher? I'm always left with a tiny film of oil on my jugs/utensils after I've washed them, is that normal? Thank you. And, as always, wonderful soap.
@OpheliasSoapery
@OpheliasSoapery 2 жыл бұрын
I wash right away. Either hand wash or dishwasher. I wipe them out first to get as much soap as I can out. After they wash I dry them with a paper towel and that removes that film that can still be on there. :)

Hi. Love this soap. Question: what's the best temperature for oils & lye,as to not accelerate, nice and fluid. Just curious.
@OpheliasSoapery
@OpheliasSoapery 2 жыл бұрын
You would want to stay around 80-90°F for bother :)

@OpheliasSoapery
@OpheliasSoapery 2 жыл бұрын
No with the heat transfer method you would want your lye to be as hot as it can get so it would melt your oils. After it’s all melted it is usually around 90-100°f
