Considering that `Love Spreads` is basically a hard rock track, it shows you how Reni could never lose his groove. Strangely, `Sally Cinnemon` is my favourite Reni piece. Man, that dude could make anything swing. Worship him....he is a musical God.

What is it with You tubers talking shite? No one has ever under rated any of these guys except maybe pre solo career, Ian Brown would have been considered the weak link (obviously he put Squire in a headlock with their respective solo work) and that was simply a reflection of his awful live vocal performances (thankfully he figured out how to mask his voices failings from his home recordings and becoming a little clever how to put subtle effects on his voice) he was always respected lyrically and he was cool as fuck.

I do love the slide guitar, but the drum groove is what snagged me and made me buy the record when it came out. As a wannabe drummer, I tried but could only manage a very squared off version. I could never emulate that cool laid back pulse . So glad to hear this isolated recording and finally realize all the important snare ghost notes. I like the full song but I am perfectly entertained by this isolated track.

Same as John Squire really.......they were hamming it up and being really corny, like a bunch of old farts that apparently forgot they used to be the coolest band in the world. Chris Scott I agree, but 'indie' is a bit of a narrow term. I'd say just rock music in general - the entire history going back to the 60's. What would be his competition if you were just talking about indie? Most drummers you would class as being indie would be very conventional and lacking funk. Reni grew up in pub bands playing in all different styles. He was actually a big heavy metal fan before he joined the Roses, the only one of the four who was.

The reason that no "best drummer" exists is that we all develop a varying sense of pocket based on our musical backgrounds, and the interpretations of each drummer are valuable as they are unique and cannot be found anywhere else. The mistake they made was not releasing a companion album of Reni’s drum tracks. Throw in his jamming and outtakes for good measure and it’s a win all round !

The greats are those who have gained a vast understanding of "pocket". I see pocket as the collection of ideas that will complement a given piece. To be a pocket drummer is to be a drummer who can improvise around the given musical boundaries (pocket) of a piece while accessorizing the piece with individualized nuances and a unique sound.

Nice video. My favourite Reni song is Elephant Stone (4.53). If you could make an isolated video of that song that would be amazing!

@jakeenan The end of the Stone Roses was a sad event not just for fans, but for music too. They were the greatest band to come out of Britain since the Beatles, IMO and they could have gone far. Unfortunately they threw it all away. But maybe their greatness remains intact this way. They didn't have time to burn out and become predictible like so many other bands have done. Shame it should end on a bitter note, but I don't point the finger at any specific individual. All 4 had a part in it.
