Deep Purple was one of my favourite bands as a teenager. They hadn't put anything out for years, so this was like a reunion. It was great to see them live on this tour, i was still in high school.

This was from 1984... Deep Purple reunited to record new music w/ the legendary Mark II line-up of the band for the first time since 1973 (Deep Purple split up in 1976)... From their perspective, they were 5 'perfect strangers' that got together to make music and made history w/ their legendary 70's records. Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) and Jon Lord (organ) were both local musicians in London, UK in the 60's... both were recruited for a band called Roundabout, but shuffling members led to Ian Paice (drums) joining the band... they renamed themselves Deep Purple in 1968 and released 3 studio albums as a pop rock band... In 1969, Deep Purple wanted to go in a heavier direction musically... so they hire 2 members of a band called Episode 6... Ian Gillan (vocals) and Roger Glover (bass)... In 1970, Deep Purple made history recording the 'In Rock' album and changed music forever w/ the heavy rock albums 'Fireball' (1971)... 'Machine head' (1972) and 'Who do we think we are' (1973)... Their 1972 live album 'Made in Japan' is considered 1 of the best concert audio releases in rock history. Unfortunately, the band was shuffled again in 1974 as Ian Gillan and Roger Glover were both out of the band. By 1983, Ian Gillan was singing for Black Sabbath... Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover were working together again in the band Rainbow... Ian Paice and Jon Lord were recording and touring w/ Whitesnake... And then, the 5 decided to collectively reform Deep Purple once again... and 'Perfect Strangers' (the 1984 album) was a triumphant return for the band. Unfortunately, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was unhappy w/ the band's dynamic and creative output and quit in 1993... Jon Lord would amicably leave Deep Purple in 2002 and passed away in 2012... Deep Purple is enjoying their last years as a band w/ Don Airey (keyboards) and Simon McBride (guitar)

Deep Purple needs a deep dive into more. This will also lead to other bands like "Rainbow" (guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's next band - song "Stargazer" is a must). Black Sabbath (lead singer Ian Gillan did an album), and Whitesnake (another Deep Purple lead singer went on to form this band)

This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. My favorites are their covers of Joe South's "Hush" & Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman". Also like "Lazy", "Child In Time", "Woman From Tokyo", "Highway Star", "Fireball", Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.

This takes me back to my teenage years when I had this album on vinyl and recorded it onto a cassette tape to play in my car. It seems like yesterday, but that's how long ago this album was released. One of my best friends had the album too and we'd talk about it. Today, my friend has now passed away about 5 years ago, but this song brings back great times. It's nice to hear it with new friends. This was my favorite track on the album and takes credit for some of my hearing loss. Great times!

@@barryrammer7906 Yes, fellow NJD. Oh yeah, we stink big time! Why couldn't we be as good as the Blackhawks?? 🙂Yes, I saw the Devils play at what was known as the Brendan Byrne Arena. However, I never got to see Deep Purple in concert anywhere. Just on MTV back when they played music videos.

Li ho visti per mia fortuna dal vivo e sono eccezionali. Anch’io avevo l’album (in vinile) e anch’io lo ascoltavo in auto con tanti miei amici amanti dell’Hard rock ad alto volume! Perfect Strangers ha lasciato un segno indelebile nell’anima e lo sarà per sempre. Dopo di questa wasted Sunsets è la più bella dell’album… E poi venne l’era di Steve Morse.. e tutto ricominciò da capo… innovativi e intramontabili … progressivi quel tanto basta per stare al passo coi tempi… peccato che stanno invecchiando tutti… 😢

I saw this tour in Germany 1984 or 1985. It was a great open air show with the bands Free and Mountain as opening acts.
