hi Lindsay. so i saw another youtuber reviewing the blue-palette set. she'd been wondering about the 'unusual' color choice of the palette too (mainly lack of blue). and then i read 1 of the comment for the review by the name "LIngma", quote "This is part of a collab with several different Chinese artists. That's the set recommended by the artist Zhao Long, as written in the box. So, that's just his artistic choice and style. I think there is a set with 8 different blue hues from the artist Gao Dong. Ps: The artists that collaborated with the brand are: Liu Yongjian, Huang Youwei, Liu Yi, Chen Yongjin, Chen Liu, Zhou Gang, Zhao Long, Chen Shaocheng and Gao Dong..." if this is the case, then it would be interesting to see other sets of PR colabs with these other artists too.

Thanks for the review on the tubes. I bought their shimmer pans palette and looooove them so much I need the regular palette as well. I also love their packaging and this has become one of my favorite watercolor palettes to play with. Their paper threw me for a minute as I couldn’t figure out how to get to the next page until I watched a tutorial. Tutorials are always helpful and I love yours. Thanks for sharing

I love this palette too, I bought it separately. You can fit a wide hake brush into the wells if you're into that kind of big brush watercolor thing :). It's also great for giant squirrel quills.

Interesting palette. I like the long wells and agree that putting the washes in the same well as the main pigment is a good idea. By the way, I've had great success in cleaning the stains from my plastic palettes with The Master's Brush Cleaner and Preserver. It makes them look like new, removing watercolor pencil, gel pen, acrylic paint, and watercolor paint residue and stains (I don't paint with oils or use any other mediums... yet). Dianne Mize softens old oil paint and removes stains from plastic palettes with an application of undiluted Murphy's Oil Soap. She follows that with a couple of applications of rubbing alcohol to remove the Murphy's. I haven't tried that with my mediums, but am keeping it on the back burner in case the soap ever fails me.

Thanks for this video and review. I ordered this set and am really enjoying the paint! The palette is such a cool design too gigantic for me. The box indicated that these 24 colors have been selected by Chinese watercolor artist Liu Yi, who is more recently known for his elegant and ethereal studies of ballerinas and landscapes. From Paul Rubens’ Chinese website, I found out this is part of their Master Artist collection, where each 24-color set is selected by a renowned Chinese watercolorist. I am having lots of fun with this Liu Yi set, and incredibly impressed by the paint’s vibrancy and how easy they are to rewet. Paul Rubens watercolor seem to behave similar enough to my Winsor and Newton and Daniel Smith watercolors ... but doesn’t spread quite as readily. To me, this set has good mix of familiar colors and properties, I love all the blues and greens, and gave me an opportunity to explore new-to-me opaque pastel colors. I do wish it has a Quin Rose instead of the not very lightfast Ruby Red and a purple. Also wanted to add that some colors don’t have “traditional” English names probably due to the brand’s large color selection. For example, the line carries 3 Pthalo blues, and named them Pthalo blue, sea blue, and sky blue. I am not affiliated at all with Paul Rubens (I wish they would send me free paint lol) but have been looking around Chinese websites to find more info about them.

I was lucky to find both palettes together filled with paint blobs on ebay marketplace. As Amazon.de sells 6 different sets with tubes, I couldn’t decide which I should get. So this was a great way to test the colors from both the palette sets. The colors mixed with white feel more than a gouache to me. I liked the range of yellows, pinks, red, they had a nice flow and behave nice compared to other tube paints I own (Schmincke, Qor, Sennelier). The blues were kind of similar and lacked of varition. The Greens were allright. The earth, brown and neutral colors are quite weak. Overall I think the paints are worth there price, but should not been overhyped. The biggest problem in my opinion is that you only get them in sets, so you end up with colors you might not like or need or duplicates when you want special colors and have to buy more than one set. About the color selection, one comment on another review stated that they work with artists to create their selections.

Hi Lindsay, Thanks for this review. I also like the layout of the palette and the fact that it comes with 3 huge mixing areas. Btw. are you sure that little plastic bit is a scraper? It looks like it just fits into the little slot to lift out the palette.

I picked up this palette from Amazon thanks to your review and have been using it for a couple of months. I love the quality, I think it’s very comparable to my artist grade Daniel Smith paints. So much so that I would rather repurchase Paul Rubens than Daniel Smith when I run low on my basic DS paints. The colours are vibrant and re-wet easily. The packaging is a great studio palette as well. Highly recommend.

Lol, the palette “scraper” is actually made to pop off the paint tray. I have this palette and it took me awhile to figure it out too 😂. So funny, as you scramble for a knife right as you put the “scraper” down! And I did the exact same thing so I’m not mocking you, I’m relating! 💕

Phthalo green light and the lemon yellow are my favorites. The six extras are all pretty opaque. And their black lifts quite easily when trying to layer . Thanks again for the info.💖

Question: I've read that certain colors do not dry well and are hard to rewet after they're dry or some may have a film over them after they're dry. Do you find certain colors hard to work with filling your watercolor pans?

The mission gold pure pigment set is better quality. The colors are stronger, more transparent and single pigment. They also cost 3x as much. These are good tho, just depends what you want

There are 2 reasons I would recommend this tube set over the 24 half pan set if you have not other paint: 1. I like the quality of the tube paint better, I use it dried down but if you wanted a large wash you could also get a bit from the tube. 2. The larger palette will be more suitable for at home use and larger brushes were as larger brushes do not do as well in the half pan palettes. Bonus: You can always fill a small travel tin from the tubes should you want a travel palette. So if it is in your budget I'd do the tubes with this palette. If it's not in your budges the 24 pan set is nice as well.

Please bring a real photo of the portrait or nature of the sea, forest, sky, mountain and teach how to mix the color for its various components to turn it into a watercolor painting. Arleesha reviewed the blue palette. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6DZeouJhtKZoc0 From the box I would say you could use them for urban or other darker scenes, I think... but I like Arleesha's review and take on it a lot. The ligthfastness of most colors in this palette also is way higher than in the pink palette.
