Love vs Legalism - Part 2 for Wednesday night - 2/21/2024

Two of the most commonly heard and quoted verses of the New Testament are John 3:16-17, yet do we really understand these two passages? The Near Eastern Semitic Aramaic text reads somewhat differently from our normal translation: “For God loved the world so much so that he would surrender his beloved son, the sole heir, that everyone who trusts in him will not perish but will have ageless life. Because God did not send his son into the world that he should condemn the world, but that the world might live by his power.” (Aramaic P’sheeta text, Errico translation)
Then there are other verses that clearly state the following: “My beloved, let us love one another; for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8, Aramaic P’sheeta text, Lamsa translation.”
Love is the foundation to all of Jesus’ parables and sayings. This being the case, how did legalism creep into the presentation of his teachings? And how did fear and condemnation become so prevalent in preaching his gospel? Could it be that we have misinterpreted and misunderstood some biblical passages and mixed certain scriptural verses incorrectly? And what about translations? Just how accurate are they? How could a God who loved the world so much so and is love itself threaten humanity with hellfire if we do not comply with the program? Is God legalistic? Does God rule like a government official?
Dr. Errico clarifies all these questions and more based on the Aramaic language and culture of the ancient biblical world.

I am SO glad you uploaded this so quickly. After the Lord's Prayer class I had to go so I was not able to hear this teaching. I feel so blessed that I found you and your translations directly from Aramaic to English, I can not seem to get enough of them. It seems all the things that I just knew in my soul that made the current translations of the Bible confusing and opposite for me your translations have made clear. I knew Yahweh was pure LOVE and your translations, for me, are the most pure to Jesus' teachings. Issa is the Arabic language version of Eesh-wa' (Eastern Aramaic, the language of Jesus) or Eesh-oo (Western Aramaic - common in Syria and Lebanon with the oo ending) which is the Aramaic name.
