The surprise for this song (obviously excepting the stunning piano/vocal intro) is how perfect the harmony vocals from Miho and Miyako are in the chorus. Miyako's high echo of Asami's lines in the second part are perfection. I wish they used this more - I'm sure Fami has the vocal chops to carry this now - let's be honest, what can't this little firecracker do? 🤘🎸🐺

This is a beautifully written piece that show cases the immense talent of these ladies bring. You can never discount how different English is from Japanese when it comes to cadence and mouth shape for certain sounds (like no "L" sound in Japanese, so making that "luh or la" sound where your tongue flicks the roof of your mouth is not natural, and why it sometimes sounds like and "R"). Anyway, that just shows how much work they put into creating those beautiful harmonies and Miyako's "echo" of Asami. You'd never know English isnt their 1st language if you heard this blind. Then the music itself flows so perfectly with the music, the whole piece feels like an operatic journey. I love this band.

One of my favorite LB offerings. It has everything that this band's insane talent shows off especially LIVE. Miyako's piano, Asami's bluesy vocals, gang vocals and perfect background vocals, M&M dueling and harmonizing guitars, Miho's great bass line and of course Haruna's great kit work especially on the cymbals. Proof once again you can't put these musicians into one genre alone. Honestly there is nothing that they can't do LIVE, well maybe Rap but I wouldn't bet against them ever. BTW great reaction and analysis to the song as always, once again Asami's vocals and lyrics have sucked you in!!!

A painful song about a girl moving on from a (possibly) abusive partner... in this case, the Beat It riff isn't there by chance (or what Lovebites haters see as plagiarism). It means EXACTLY that: Beat it, get lost, f**k off. It's the anger, the attitude overcoming the disappointment and heartbreak. Yes, Miyako is a genius.

Interesting and detailed analysis guys. I believe the "Beat It" riff was written by Eddie Van Halen and performed on the Jackson tour by Jennifer Batten. Both are influences listed by Miyako who wrote the music for Empty Daydream. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

that riff is from Beat It, but is the section before Eddie's solo. But in fact, it appears even earlier, in the song Back on the Road Again, by REO Speedwagon. It appears on the album Nine Lives from 1979, three years before Beat It (1982).

I love this song. It isn't often reacted too, and it is very beautiful. Miyako's piano opening and Asami's soulful voice. Asami has such a rich voice, and it is sometimes surprising just how much. The lyrics are great too, as are the vocal melodies! One of my favorites.

Great reaction ! Miyako's piano intro is Rachmaninoff's "Moment Musicaux Op. 16 No. 4 in E Minor". The main riff you heard on this song is derived from Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Jennifer Batten was MJ's session guitarist who performed with MJ on all 3 of his world tours in the '90s. Batten is one of Miyako's guitar influences and she composed & arranged this track that included a derivation of that main riff as an homage to Batten. "Moments Musicaux Op. 16 No. 4" by Sergei Rachmaninoff (Rachmaninoff) is incorporated into the prelude. Miyako added this piece to the prelude to Live in 2019. Miyako has also composed several other classically-inspired compositions, incorporating a fusion of metal and classical music in the introduction. The song "Empty Daydream" has a similar vibe to Michael Jackson's "Beat It" in parts. I thought so too until I heard the following, which was pointed out in other reactionary content on LOVEBITES. Reo Speedwagon "Back On The Road Again" released in 1979 (KZbin channel "JoseCotdino"). However, in the case of Love Bites' "Empty Daydream," I believe it was influenced by Michael Jackson's "Beat It" (released in 1982) performed by JENNIFER BATTEN. Miyako later said that one of her Top 5 guitar heroes is Jennifer Batten. Art can be passed down. In "LIVE IN 2019" I prefer the addition of piano to the prelude of this song. Also, Miho&Miyako's backing chorus was very good on this day.
