This gig, Tokyo Dome City Hall 2021 was in the midst of "cold season" with audience limited to half-capacity, spaced, only clapping allowed, no singing along, shouting, etc. Mosh-pits are rare in Japan. Most shows like this are 'lottery' to get tickets with designated marks on the floor to stand or assigned-seating (like this one). The February 2020 "Zepp" show has more audience participation, but for a mosh-pit you'd have to explore UK/Europe club or festival gigs 2018 & 19 which are mostly 'fan filmed' with phones. Worth seeing, but predictable lower video/audio quality, though their performances are superb EVERY time. I think most people who find their way to a LOVEBITES gig are stunned and hypnotized watching, not even thinking of slamming their bodies into sweaty guys and missing the fantastic SHOW!

At 72, I grew up with the evolution of rock, but I was never a Metal fan. I'm still not a Metal fan, but I am most definitely a LOVEBITES fan. They transcend genre, gender and nationality with their remarkable talents and synergy amongst all 5 members. In some ways, they are the antithesis of Metal in demeanor, style and outlook, while still showing the many Metal influences they have.

By the sounds of it there isn't a whole lot of marketing for Japanese bands outside Japan, unless it's an outfit taking a specific drive, which I think was more of the case with say someone such as Babymetal. Lovebites have played some significant metal gigs such as Wacken and Bloodstock, but it's just how it is with music.. these things get around by word of mouth and increasingly by reaction videos. I'm pleased to see that the mainstream media outfits such as HMV carry their stock on the shelves (at least they do in the UK) but it's true that they tend to get lost along with it has to be said many other bands. Of all bands out there though, they are definitely worthy of a higher profile. This gig was based in Tokyo, under covid restriction conditions, hence the seemingly subdued applause. In fairness it's probably a miracle it happened at all, but all concerned had their act together to make it happen and the music world is richer for it! I suspect it'll be a while before we see them live again since Miho has departed the outfit, but they will in all likelihood be back when the time is right, so keep an eye open.. Incidentally these ladies have done a cover of Judas Priest's PAINKILLER and it's in YT here somewhere.. enjoy!

Yes, Black Sabbath are considered the fathers of metal, but it has definitely evolved a lot since. I still like them a lot though. And even Lovebites aren't really playing what's popular these days. Their music has some strong old school influence. I listen to a lot of metal and Lovebites have become one of my favourite bands. But there is so much crazy stuff out there. The technical proficiency in metal is mindblowing at times. You probably won't like the vocals, but check out Archspire for an extreme example. Insane musicianship.

Excuse me, have you heard anything about the Covid-19 pandemic? The video you watched was from the concert that took place on March 26, 2021. The Japanese government has declared a new wave of pandemic and emergency due to Covid-19. LOVEBITES have been forced to reschedule their "Ride for Vengeance Tour" dates from January to March 2021. And when the concerts were allowed, LOVEBITES held them under severe restrictions, while observing security measures due to Covid (there are few spectators in the hall, a distance is kept between spectators, everyone is wearing masks, spectators cannot express their emotions loudly, only applause and other restrictions).

As regards metal, Metallica's album "Ride the Lightning" was my musical revelation in 1984, thus unsurprisingly, this song, "Break the Wall" and "The Hammer of Wrath" are my favourite songs by Lovebites, though I like any of their songs so far. As far as old school metal is concerned, they have taken the best from the eighties to the next level. On the subject of female guitarists and in the context of this Thrash Metal song, I'd like to recommend the - to my knowledge - first all-female Thrash Metal band Ice Age from Sweden who released their first demo in 1987 and might have become quite popular, if they'd only got a record dealway back then. There's actually an official videoclip (from 1989) of my favourite song "Instant Justice": kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXSbnH5tob2NiLM Since the singer Debbie Gunn and one of the guitarists in this clip aren't from the original line-up, I also recommend this live version of the same song (also from 1989) featuring the original line-up: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXSbnH5tob2NiLM While Lovebites play in a league of their own, Ice Age proved already more than 30 years ago that women can play Thrash Metal very well! And while I'm at it, Meanstreak from the US, who released their one and only album "Roadkill" in 1988, also deserve to be mentioned in this context. The longest song "The Congregation" on that album is also my favourite one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKjKZn1tepx5prc
@taknothing48962 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanx for those links. I'd never heard of Ice Age or Meanstreak, but they're both pretty good. About 40 years ago I briefly worked with an all-female metal band called Rude Girl, which turned into Malibu Barbi after a few lineup changes. Look up them or Leather Leone, vocalist for both bands.
@MissLoonasSpeech2 жыл бұрын
@@taknothing4896 I'm pleased to hear you like them. :) I'm sure I read the name Malibu Barbi in some metal magazines way back then (but looking through them right now for confirmation would take too much time), but in those days there was no internet and no youtube where you could check out anything within a few seconds. I'm already familiar with Leather Leone because of Chastain's first five albums which I bought back then and still listen to every once in a while nowadays. I checked out two songs of Malibu Barbi and think they are quite decent, but I prefer Leather Leone with Chastain. Another obscure all-female metal band whose only album "Transitions" I also like are Mother Earth: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3OsnoSfrJ51iJI A bit tamer than Ice Age and Meanstreak, but not too polished for my taste. In the context of Lovebites and female guitar players, I'd also like to mention Phantom Blue. Just like Lovebites, they had two lead guitarists - Michelle Meldrum (RIP) and Nicole Couch - who could shred very well, as e.g. in the song "Frantic Zone": kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4fToJ-pm7aLla8 (about the 2 minutes-mark) Since the songs on their debut had been rather short, I had hoped they'd become more complex on their next album, but that didn't happen, maybe also because Grunge nearly killed old school metal in the early nineties.
@reactioninaction74152 жыл бұрын
Awesome - thanks for the suggestions. Glad to see other people are finding music through the comments. That's awesome!
@MissLoonasSpeech2 жыл бұрын
@@reactioninaction7415 You're welcome! :) When I recommend something, I try to give at least a bit of background information, which might make it easier for people to decide whether it might be worth a try to check out a specific band or song. And it's nice to get a bit of feedback every once in a while, even if it's just a short mini-conversation. However, I find it unfortunate that youtube is so unstructered - especially compared to music-related forums (most of which unfortunately don't exist any longer). Any comment seems like a drop of water in a vast ocean. And if there wasn't a function to access at least all your own posts directly, it could become nearly impossible to ever find them again, especially if they should get drowned in a list of several hundred or - in some cases - even thousands of comments. Or is there a search-function on YT I'm not aware of which allows you to scan all comments for keywords and access them directly just like the search-function on forums?
