#Lovebites #SWAN_SONG #Chopin #Miyako
If this was the last day you could live on this earth
Would you still go on, accusing someone for today
It's better to fail than not do anything at all
It is not the length, but depth of life that counts
Oh brave soldier
Oh gallant warrior
Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla
Believe what's in your soul
For death will come to all
You shall rest peacefully in God's heaven
Floating lotus
You are so graceful
Saintly and glorious
Till the end of time
Floating lotus
You are so beautiful
Sing me your sweet song
The legend of the swan
If you've never hoped, you've never been through despair
Ignorance is bliss, it’s easier not to care
You might think it's meaningless to sacrifice a life
Sometimes the life of one can save so many more
Oh brave soldier
Oh gallant warrior
Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla
Believe what's in your soul
For death will come to all
You shall rest peacefully in God's heaven
Floating lotus
You are so graceful
Saintly and glorious
Till the end of time
Floating lotus
You are so beautiful
Sing me your sweet song
The legend of the swan
SOLO: Miyako/both
Floating lotus
You are so graceful
Saintly and glorious
Till the end of time
Floating lotus
You are so beautiful
Sing me your sweet song
The legend of the swan
SOLO: Midori

I can say this masterpiece definitely a classical song. No matter how fast and heavy, we still can considered this song as classical song. This just shows us how brilliant they composed the song. And that's how's LOVEBITES.

Some background: Chopin (pronounced Show-pan) was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the greatest classical composers of all time. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now one of the best metal guitarists in the world. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor).

Lovebites is good example of a band, where you should not forge opinion over one song. They are so diverse in their catalog, and all the songs are made with passion, no fillers thrown there. It's not like "now you have listened their 3 best songs... no, you have listened 3 of 50 songs. You haven't heard the song I think is the best for example(Edge of the world). It is just matter of who likes which more. They are all great songs.

Glad you have decided to delve into Lovebites further than just two songs. They weave all sorts of metal styles into their music. Some of the live videos will not have lyrics. It does help for new people to catch what she is singing. I often think the song is a nod to the legend that a swan is mute all it's life but before it dies, it sings a beautiful song.

I still get goosebumps each time I see Swan Song and the musical genius of Miyako. If each Lovebites song were a flower bouquet, Swan Song would be the centerpiece. After you do Break The Wall, you might want to check out another piano piece by Miyako, Empty Daydream Live in Tokyo 2019 (see link below). It also features another side to Asami's vocals whereby it highlights and shows some of her R&B singing skills shining through. The second link will be to their guitar war shredfest between Miyako and Midori called Scream for Me where I counted 16 individual trading back and forth tasty guitar solo licks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc - Empty Daydream kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5TanKOenN-BnZo - Scream for Me

To understand the meaning of the lyrics of the swan song, we need the historical background of "Chopin's Etude Op.10-12" aka Revolutionary Etude. During his journey, Chopin learns that Poland's "November Revolution", which resisted the rule of the Russian Empire, failed. The Polish dynasty was also destroyed and he lost a place to return. After that, Chopin announced his "Etude Op.10-12". SWAN SONG is a song dedicated to the warriors who fought to regain their country and freedom. The composer Miyako (guitar & piano) studied classical piano from the age of 3 and graduated from music college. Asami (vocal), who has been studying classical ballet since the age of two, wrote the lyrics with the image of "Swan Lake". And all the members thought about the arrangement, and this masterpiece was born. Their playing skills and musical sensibilities are extraordinary.

And about the text, "Valor to those who died in battle to Valhalla", where she picked that one up is out of my grasp, ( I mean they are Japanese, and that is a long way from Scandinavia), Valhalla is allfathir Odins place in old norse mythology, and where he kollects half of all people who has died in battle, they are training battle all days long and feasts every evening, the other half of the battle died ones is kollected by the godess Freya, both, just to have them in the last great battle Ragnarök...

I don't mind comparisons with other bands as long as they don't take over the whole video. Iron Maiden are certainly one of their main sources of inspiration. They even have a tribute song to Iron Maiden called The Crusade. There is a great music video available. Just make sure to go for the longer video, not the so-called KZbin version.

Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude was inspired by the failed November Uprising, where Poland attempted to drive out Russian forces. It is also called the Etude on the Bombardment of Warsaw. So it fits the motif of fallen soldiers very well. Chopin was devastated by the events and would never have an opportunity to return to his homeland. Chopin had a rough life in many ways.

The puzzle for me is that Miho and Haruna met while being in the band Destrose. When that band dissolved, they formed Love Bites with Midori, enlisting Miyako who was their support guitarist and created perfection! So it must have been something drastic for Miho to decide to leave! I hear the group is devastated! I hope they can find a bassist that can keep up, or, better yet, talk Miho into staying!

You should of course do what you want, but I don't think it's a good idea to have captions on for first time listens. Asami (and Lovebites in general) have said that the reason they sing in English is so people (Japanese) don't focus on lyrics first but rather FEEL the music first. Then after they've done that, they can look up the lyrics. I think that works for English-speakers as well due to Asami's accent. If you analyze lyrics during first listen, you won't be as focused on just feeling the song (+ more pauses) and you might even miss certain things in the video because you were looking at the captions. Anyway, you should of course do what makes reacting to them most fun!
