Just seen your post on twitter about your feelings when you see others achieve something in life and have lots of people celebrate and support their success. When I was a little spring chicken I worked for a local radio station and one of my lowly jobs was to interview the local, unknown musicians that nobody else wanted to interview. The station was run on a tight budget and anyone who would sing or play for free tended to get on the air if they had any talent at all. One day a young 14 year old girl came to the station carrying a tatty old guitar and asked to be interviewed. I was sent for. We went into the studio to record a couple of song and my goodness, I was totally blown away; she had a lovely singing voice, played the guitar very well for her age and her original songs were delightful. Afterwards we recorded an interview to go on air and I asked her who her musical inspirations were. She mentioned several singer-songwriters, the one I can remember her naming was the brilliant Carole King. My final question was "... and who would YOU like to be in five or ten years time?" expecting her to say Carole King, or one of the other people she had named. The young girl thought for a few seconds, and said "In five or ten years time, I'd like to be a better version of me." Which I thought was a lovely thing to say. She wasn't prepared to judge herself in comparison to others, she just wanted to be the best she could be and she was happy with that. A young girl taught me an important lesson that day, and yes, she went on to achieve great things. - Renee, we truly admire and love you not for what you want to become, but for what you already are.
