I love the show and the far-reaching tentacles of Cthulhu Mythos that Lovecraft created. I'm a big fan of his fiction but NOT of his racism and his delusional thinking. Much of the modern horror we have today draws upon the Lovecraft legacy.

Loved it. This episode dove into some deep shit, Got me thinking about what if. There is a book called, " Black Like Me" where a white man pretended to be black, another book written by Robert Beck called, Trick Baby, about a light-skinned black man who could pass as white and how he was treated in the hood. The drag queen scene also played into this episode's theme of metamorphosis, men taking on the persona as women. Our human experience is fluid. When we dress up our sense of self changes, we become different, because we feel different.

I understand u being white u won’t have the same perspective as a black person. Im just glad ur not freaking out about race issues like a lot of white people, and apparently some brown people, are. We all have prejudices and the only way to get over those issues is with new information to change our thinking. Black people will ALWAYS fight systemic racism but it will not be stamped out by us alone. We must learn the difference between individual prejudice and systemic racism. This show covers both. So thanks for being open minded to learning. There have always been white folks fighting side by side with black folks and some scared to rock the boat even tho they know it’s wrong. At first I thought Cristina just transformed into a man and used the name William. But it seems William was someone as his experience with the captain of the lodge who his father was head of as we know Cristina’s father was head of a separate lodge and not killed by the captain. Also the fact that he was laughed out of academia while Cristina wouldn’t be able to have done that. Most likely Cristina found William saved him with a combination of their Magic’s putting two people into one. The scar on Williams body not being on Cristina shows the cop attempting to kill him was true and if Cristina was able to stay a man with her mind and just transform like that fully there would be no issue with her becoming a lodge member .

This was an amazing commentary. To just add, why would the skinny black girl get the job even after ruby was more qualified and applied several times before her. I think its because the skinnier black girl was more appealing to the rapist manager. Also, the scene where they all went to the "southside" one of the white women were looking at a black man seductively, i wonder what happened later. I really wish ruby(the bigger black woman) had a chance at love with William, it made me happy that she finally was made to feel like a queen only for it to be a whole lie. Most big black women are not appealing to the general population as their lightskin counterparts. I am looking forward to episode 6. I definitely feel like this ties into the actual Jeffery epstien case and probably shows us deeper of what is going on...i may be completely wrong too... Also Lancaster having a black mans body part is so true, this reminds me or Jordan peeles get out. I can definitely see peeles work in this show and his touch. Love it!

Christina is my favorite part of the show, and pretty much the only mystery worth solving. Once she's gone, I'm not so sure how the show will survive honestly.

Yeahhhh that’s a black man’s torso. The question is who’s torso is it. I briefly thought what if they got George’s body... but yaaaah idk...

That rape scene made me have flash backs of witnessing my brothers rape as children and I have been really depressed ever since...i haven't really struggled with depression for awhile i thought I was doing well. Guess not....i wish these shows had maybe a trigger warning....cuz triggers are very real, not just a trendy reaction lol out of everything I guess anything could have triggered me so my fault for trying to watch an HBO max series 🙈😩

@kagsgirl right! I've never seen a scene like that tho it was pretty gruesome.

The horror of a cute little pump being defiled in such a way hurt my feelings!

The anger that Ruby felt about being interrupted I understood. But I felt that she was trapped by her anger and even the attack on the manager didn't adequately relieve her of its overwhelming presence.

I wish the truth can be told outside of story form. I guess it’s more entertaining to dance around it

William was shot in the back?! I totally missed that. I need to rewatch this episode. When was he shot?? By the way, I thoroughly enjoy your reviews of this series.

Are those underground tunnels referring to the Underground Railroad the network of secret routes to safe houses for slaves to escape to freedom?

I predicted Christina and William were the same person a couple episodes ago , they never appeared at the same time .. so many mysteries unrevealed . The writers should do an episode explained segment after the season is finalized.

another example of metamorphosis was the shows display of drag queens throughout the show which was obvi intentional because they casted Monet Exchange and Shangela from Rupaul’s Drag Race
