@@randywissler9923 cannot disagree with you about Lynyrd Skynyrd about Southern Rock (excepting Allman Brothers of course) I bought LS's first album and it is still amazing. But after a while I got tired of their 'confederate flag' bullshit. Unfortunately their last album was literally their last. We lost a couple good musicians there.

Johnny took over for Ronnie after he died in the plane crash too. The deeper you dive into music the more you see how - especially blues based bands - share and recycle a lot of the same people and there are close connections between so many of the bands.

I love this song, and especially when it slows down/softens and then goes back into the harder sound.🙂 I remember being in high school and being the only black person/girl who would sing this with the majority white guys in marching band during a break in the band room. I even did air guitar 🎸 with them when I wasn't dancing. 😄 Two of the drummers were sooo cute, and when they'd look at me while singing this song.... ☺️❤️

@@phillyphan1225 Yes, this song has some of the best changes/transitions that I've heard. 🙂 I always wanted to play drums, so I would also try to work my way to the drum section and ask them to show me how to play the quads or trios, (I don't recall the actual names) but they were too heavy for me to hold. That didn't keep them from still trying to help me make a decent beat while a little innocent flirting went on. 😊

Taking me back to my Freshman year of high school, 81-82! J and Amber, don’t know if you realize that Donnie Van Zant plays guitar and is one of the two founding members of the band (He has the black hat and white jacket). He was with the band from 74-2013. Donnie is the younger brother of Ronnie, who died in the Lynard Skynard plane crash, and has a younger brother Johnny who became Lynard’s lead singer in 1987.

FYI - .38 Special has close ties to Lynyrd Skynyrd. The other vocalist in .38 Special is Donnie Van Zant, younger brother of Ronnie Van Zant, Lynyrd Skynyrd's lead vocalist. Also, you may have not notice but ..38 Special usually performs with two drummers. the MV showed quick shots of this. Having seeing them live, (Wild Eyed Southern Boy tour) this was impressive and sounded amazing. Also in the MV lead guitarist, Jeff Carlisi, plays a Gibson Firebird, same as does guitarist Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Just a few things that ties .38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd together. Keep that Southern Rock sound coming.

38 Special hit their creative stride in the early 80's, producing some of the best "Southern-flavored" rock since Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not as country as Alabama (since they lacked a fiddle}, or as heavy as Skynyrd, 38 Special hit perfectly in the middle. Songs "Back Where You Belong" "Teacher, Teacher", "Hold On Loosely", "Wild-Eyed Southern Boys", "Fantasy Girl" are classics and "Rockin' into the Night" got them onto the charts in 1979.

Whoa- I was just listening to Big Head Todd and the Monsters last night. Same album Bittersweet comes from. They're more of a jam band, like the Allmans, or Gov't Mule. Great stuff! First I'd ever heard of them was when they were with the HORDE festival back in the early 90's. It was Dave Matthews, Big Head Todd, Blues Traveller, and the Allmans on the main stage, and 4 others, inc Little Sister, on a side stage. First time ever hearing DMB, Big Head Todd or Little Sister, and all blew me away, live! Next day, I was at my favorite record store, cash in hand, buying everything I could find from them! A few months later, DMB blew up on the radio. I'd never heard anything like it, and was like "Holy Shit!!! Who is this???" Those guys can PLAY live. To this day, no other concert has beaten this one. The Allmans were on FIRE! Bucket list item checked off! That was also the best crowd I've ever been a part of. But yeah- I second Rob Squad checking out Big Head Todd and the monsters. Lots of bangers: Bittersweet, Ellis Island, Groove Thing. etc. that entire album has no duds on it!

Great choice! I've seen them in concert 5 times back in the day! I always loved them. By the way, Donny Van Zant is the blonde with the black hat. He's one of the founding members of .38 Special. He's a character in concert too lol. Donny's the brother of the lead singers of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Yes, both of them. The 1st brother, Ronnie, died in a airplane crash in Mississippi on their way to do another show. The other brother, Stevie I think, took over for him when Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited back in the 90s, I think. Sorry, I'm getting older and dates are harder for me to remember dates now. I do know that we saw them in 1998 in Jackson MS, because I was 7 months pregnant with our 3rd child lol and it was hot. If course, it was an outdoor concert too. I subscribed the other day and have been binge watching my favorites. Thank you both so much for what you are doing. I'm enjoying myself too much! 😆

I dedicated this song to a classmate when I was a senior in high school, and the whole school heard it. It was on Power 108 in Cleveland. My English teacher heard it & spent a big portion of the class heckling me about it. 😄👍

Loved this song the very first time I heard it on the radio in June or July of 1982. I was a 15 year old high school freshman (don't ask me why I was a freshman at 15 😂) and I had a crush on one of my classmates. "I'm so caught up in you, little girl, you're the one that's got me down on my knees."

Caught Up in You and Hold On Loosely are definitely at the top of my 38 Special list! You should check out "If I'd Been the One."

I was a kid in the 80s but never really followed 38 Special (I mostly knew them from "Second Chance", a slow ballad that got popular in the late 80s with a replacement singer and was not indicative of their previous work). But I picked up their greatest hits years ago and it's full of great songs. "Caught Up In You" is an all-time classic, but they had lots of great songs ("Teacher Teacher", "Like No Other Night", "If I'd Been The One", etc). Extremely underrated band.

Per Wikipedia "Caught Up in You" is the first single released from Southern rock band 38 Special's 1982 album, Special Forces. It became their first #1 on the Billboard Top Tracks rock chart. It also became one of the band's two top ten pop hits, reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their other Top 10 single, "Second Chance", reached #6 in 1989.

Love Southern Rock. Always the best. Had a friend DJ who when I walked in bar played 38 Special every time.
