Loved ones reunite as USS Harry S. Truman returns from history-making mission

Coming Home follows our nation's service members as they return from deployment. The USS Harry S. Truman just returned from a groundbreaking military mission as the first carrier deployed as part of the Trump administration's so-called Dynamic Force Employment strategy. Dana Jacobson followed the sailors as they reunited with family members.

It makes me cry every time I see these reunions. Before my husband retired, I went through 2 ship deployments during his 26 years, which is not many compared to others experiences, and it is every bit as emotional as it looks. I don't miss those times, but I wouldn't trade a single minute. As a spouse, you learn how strong you are. Deployment, unfortunately, will make or break you depending on how fast you learn to be independent and strong enough to handle everything that comes your way while they are away.

This is the greatest feeling I have ever experienced. I experienced this return multiple times, and I will never forget the excitement and the joy of reuniting with my loved ones then. I even wrote a book about my Navy experience.

Omg, the Truman is Awesome, I had a chance to tour the Truman on family day, my son in law was station on the Truman when we went. Merry Christmas to our sailors and there families. 🎄🎀⛄🎉🎁🎶🎄❄

It might just be me but I don't get emotional at all when stuff happens they're going to be back and nothing's going to happen to them there hasn't been a Navy battle since the last World War I might just be cold hearted by the way I was raised my dad was on this ship and he has been deployed for 12 out of the fifteen years I have been alive and he has only been around for 3 of my birthdays it just does not faze me

it's not always about if they're going to make it back. It's the long waits between talks, missing big moments in your life [Anniversaries, Child's birth/birthdays, etc]. People get the same emotional reaction when they are long distant dating and haven't seen each other in months. Also keep in mind that they're a lot of jobs [maybe not that huge] in the Navy that do see combat and are at risk for not making it back home. My father was in the Army for the first 15 years of my life and had gone on six tours and multiple rotations. Plenty of times where I knew he was in a safe area but was still hurt by the loss of presence, of course the times where he was in a dangerous place was harder. My point is bud that you're looking at it in the form of "if it's not dangerous, why be emotional about it"... Also keep in mind that it takes one wrong move from any country to start a naval war.
