Thank you both so much! This has stirred my heart, at 69, a divorced woman living with and disabled daughter on just a penny. Even at this winter of my life and all of the limitations of internal and external resources, God, what are you saying to even me at this last hour and in these very limited, restrictive circumstances? Will You make those places come alive again in myself and my daughter and show us Your glory in and through us! In Jesus name, amen.

The normal person wouldn't think this is a creative endeavor... especially since for years, I was a musician. I led worship every Sunday, did the coffee house scene, and basically loved it so much, I used to joke about being buried with my guitar. After severe arthritis set into my hands, especially my thumbs, I could no longer play. I had to hang up my guitar, and although I still like to sing, my heart just wasn't in it anymore. I got burned out and lost the desire. Fast forward to retirement and as caregiver to my elderly mother. Here's where my latest calling came to be. It's the most fulfilling thing I've ever done. I give old people pedicures in their home. I take great care to offer them a service that is wonderful from start to finish. I'll even paint their toenails if they want. They are so happy, and it has become my passion. This is my work for the Lord, and I know it's an answer to prayer. It also fulfills a very big need, as seniors often can't do their own feet. It's not a big, grand thing, but it's our thing... mine and the Lord's. I am truly, truly blessed! 🙂

John and Allen, thank you both! I really enjoyed this. So many gems in this conversation. Music, duty versus delight, doing something for God versus doing something with God…fantastic

Wow, so good!! Being in my mid-50's, five years out of an emotionally abusive marriage, God is reminding me that I AM a creative, that is how He created me, so this was so timely! Allen's words at the end were so encouraging, "Find what brings you joy, that God has put within you, and get a taste of it again. Do something that stirs within you that wonder again. Don't do it alone, invite God into it..." My heart was stirred and I knew exactly what those things are as I heard those words! And then to pause at the end, John, and ask Abba, Jesus, and Holy Spirit "what are You saying to me? and what are we doing together in this?" It "forced" me to stop putting off asking, for fear of what He might answer, and let Him bring those things to my mind again. Yeah, it was a timely confirmation. Thank you both so much! 🙌

Something you said, John, reminded me of a quote from an interview with actor Steve McQueen, where he said, “But you’ve got to believe in what you’re doing…….and if I’m shooting my best shot for me, then I’m doing my best for the audience. If I try to figure out what they want, and get devious, and so forth, then, I’m not doing good for them or me.” This is a wonderful episode, thank you!

Allen, about halfway through the conversation, you were talking about creativity and you mentioned that God doesn't use formula in His creating [or something to that effect]. As I pondered that idea, I considered that in the creation of all living things He said they would reproduce "after their kind" - apples have seeds that produce other apple trees, salmon lay eggs that become other salmon, and mankind gives birth to other humans. Yet within that reproduction in kind, is vast creativity because no two are exactly alike! All snowflakes are snowflakes - no two are the same. Structure and form may remain a constant, but life brings unlimited possible outcomes. As you mentioned about the church gatherings on Sunday mornings ... yes, same structure week after week. I have been part of over a dozen churches - and some were asleep - but others were alive and creative beauty flowed freely within the structure (though I have been present when structure was laid aside because of the Spirit's direction) of a celebration service as the Spirit moved and the presence of God honored and exalted. I'm watching at the 28-minute mark but wanted to pause and comment before the thought became a distraction. It may be that as I continue to listen you and John discuss this same concept. I look forward to this podcast every Monday. Thank you both!

When I ask someone what they want for lunch, I'm giving them a choice as an act of kindness. In order to be tender with God, Allen is giving God the choice/freedom to express His desire. It's an act of making space for His desire in our life. It shows we're in a posture of listening. We're hungry for God's perspective. Just letting a wild and good God be creative with us.

John Grishams first book was time to kill. Didn’t sell much. The firm was his second one which exploded. Only then did time to kill sell and became a great movie. Fits your point though because it was way deeper than the firm, as it was his “ first book”.

Are the voices on your pause app human beings? Or A.I. generated voices?
