1:47 I think the issue here regarding the face detection is the lights behind you while he is trying to capture your face. The lights behind you could act like the sun behind a subject when taking a photo.. all the details are lost almost silhouette like. Kill the lights behind you and try again []II[] :) 2:35 Come here.. this issue im guessing is due to the distance and your height in relation to him.. the 4 mic pickups are on his top 2 front 2 back, he uses these mics to pin point your location when you talk to him. As you are towering over him from a greater distance im guessing he finds it hard to pinpoint your location specially with room acoustics too ;) notice at 3:29 you adjust your perspective as well as get closer but the perspective is important for the mic placements. 4:20 back to charger.. I actually totally agree with this, sometimes mine has issues when hes just a few inches away. The searching process for the charger is way too slow, im sure this can be improved no end since there is a big sign on the charger which he uses as a reference point, the slight turn and search thing gets very frustrating lol 7:30 again i totally agree with this too.. the response time is far too slow.. the other issues are when he is chirping away when your tryin to say "Hey Vector", because of his own noise (which must be very loud internally) he can not hear you call him or the question being asked. A little help here i have found is to turn the volume down a little via the app. As for the "I have a question" again this is to let Vector know to access an external source for knowledge. Heres an example "Hey Vector" wakes him up ready for the next command instead of saying "What is the time?" just say "Time" and he reads out the time from internal utilities. As soon as you say "I have a question" this triggers a new routine which demands external tech. Now, i know the very fact and even the name itself can give people the shivers lol so i shall only say her name once (She who should not be named) Alexa! From my understanding (She who should not be named) is due to be integrated with Vector around the 17th of Dec 2018 in the US and Canada (Not the UK which sucks donkey balls) this again will rely on another trigger event in order to send poor old vector on a corporate mission of demonic possession. The very thought of having such a cute little dude speak like a boring conservative noodle saddens me to my very core lol. So the point im making here is that maybe they (anki) are being uber lazy by using (She who should not be named) database instead of creating their own via the cloud (I have a question). Maybe this will be redundant in the near future thanks to the monkey butts at amazon. Me.. id love him to have more character like cozmo and more cubes to play with lol Hope this help :)

I finally got a Cozmo today, but I poured through all the Vector info when it was announced. My issue with these robots is that their software functionality isn't on board. Cozmo is a hardware accessory of the Cozmo app. Vector's voice processing is done in the cloud. When Anki gets this format to a more self-sufficient, autonomous evolutionary stage, my interest will be piqued. Especially if I can run my own local server to handle external processing loads, and let the robot and its toys have a dedicated /26 (or more) subnet on my existing WiFi. Vector is gen 2, I don't expect any of that to happen before gen 4 in 2022. Also, I don't want Siri, Alexa, Google Home, or any other spy-on-user apparatus, I want a piece of interesting STEM hardware to play with.

I agree with your points. I'm thinking the reason we have to say "I have a question" is to trigger Vector to access his wifi internet since he probably doesn't have the ability (yet, at least) to decipher that we're actually asking a question with our voice inflection and key words like what, who, why, when, how, is, etc. That's something Anki might be able to address in a future update. As for having him on the floor, I think it was always suggested that Vector was a table top bot. Too much risk of him getting stepped on down there. I wouldn't let him get stuck under that piece of furniture again as that can't be good for his servos. When Cozmo first came out, it took quite a while for Anki to do updates and add more games and features. Maybe a bit too long as people got bored with Cozmo playing the same games for so long until the update finally started happening. I do wish that Vector could respond quicker after asking him to do something. Once again that will probably be addressed in a future update. I'm still having my Vector have periodic 915 error codes happening which I hope gets fixed. It doesn't happen often though.
@ljptech6 жыл бұрын

Vector is just like cozmo, a program robot but without the need of a smart phone. it is not a real artificial intelligent robot. Anki just put some commands for it to interact with the users. it doesn’t do anything more other than repeat those commands and bumping around on the table. That’s why the users get bored after a while. They are really good with their commercial advertisement by the way.

On point 5, you ask why we need the followup "I have a question" after we've already said "Hey Vector". We know that Anki implemented it this way to differentiate from his 'built-in' questions and responses such as "What's the weather" from those he needs to access his cloud database. I presume you are suggesting Anki could remove the need for the followup "I have a question" by making Vector check his cloud database automatically if his 'built-in' resource cannot provide an answer. Seems feasible. By the way, you only have to say "Question", not "I have a question". Also, pressing the button on his back triggers listening mode so you only have to say one word: "Question". I know, its not ideal but it's what I do if Vector is within arms reach. On point 6, many of us have wondered what his database is. In the demo you gave we saw Google access Wikipedia for the answer. This is a free resource that Anki could be utelising but it seems he is not. I'd love to see some Wolfram Alpha integration as Siri has, but that could be expensive. I've noticed Vecotr knows a lot about American sports triva but knows little about basic information of other countires, such as the Prime Minister of Australia. Wikipedia integration would be a simple solution.

Years later and not sure if anyone told you about it, but the reason why Vector is slow to answer questions is, that it takes the sound of your voice, translates it to a written text and then "reads" it. Or at least that's what I've understood from other reviews and tech info. Still think it's a really nice little robot. But regarding the distance of what the mic can pic up, I'm pretty sure Vector and Cozmo is supposed to be desktop companions. So if it lives on your desk, then there won't be any trouble with it hearing you.

In my opinion most of your problems with vector are caused by your wrong usage. At the moment Vector is a "Desk robot" and not a full house robot. This means that the normal distance between Vector and you should be 1/2 meters and not kilometers. Same for the scanning stuff. With the response time i agree with you, it's a bit slow, but you must consider that vector it's only 4/5 months old and in constant update. So, there are no reasons to pretend Vector to be a fully functional autonomous robot with trillions of functionality. Simply, take it for what it is, a toy for adult

Great videos! All perfectly valid points. I like to troubleshoot alot of things for my own understanding. The voice recognition, or his hearing overall does seem to be handicapped when hes next to a wall, or other taller objects or with other ambient sounds. I'm thinking its because of echo where sound that would ordinarily pass him, is actually bouncing back into the sensors on his far side making him believe your'e over there...... or right over him... maybe? I have certainly noticed talking down at him is not as effective as talking at him from the same table top level. This sounds stupid, but when you have him on the floor in the corner...... try sitting on the floor 4-5 feet away from him and calling him with your face nearly at floor height. Notice how effective your finger snapping was at his level behind him. I have a small wall clock that can only be heard at night when the house is quiet. One evening, Vector woke up and started dancing..... It took me a few seconds to figure out what the heck he was doing..... danging to the ticking of the clock. So.......His hearing isnt all that bad! hehehe The cloud database- We are all completely spoiled by Google home :) ........ I also lost sight of what vector is and what hes capable of whenever he says "i didn't get that". However, I would be willing to bet that the Alexa integration will expand Vectors knowledge base for sure! Moving on to your next video! Thanks for posting these!

I don't think two of 7 issues you mention are fixable. The ability to recovery in a stuck situation and the way to find the charger if it is not closer. Because it just use the camera to find it and i don't think it have another kind of sensor to help this. Vector need to stay on a table very closer to you and the charger. Another one issue i have is it falling down alot of time. When it is on the edge of the table and it don't try to step back but it turn on this side, it fall. Got it twice. I like videos like this. It's honest. My main problem with Vector is that prior to the shipping date of the preorders on Oct 9th 2018, no one knew Anki was working with Amazon behind closed doors. Allot of us bought Vector because of Anki's promise of privacy and not selling our data to third parties. Amazon's Alexa is notorious for that, more so than the other known AI assistants. I know it's an optional feature but those of us who will opt out of the Alexa features, still paid just as much money as those with Alexa devices. We will be getting less functionality with Vector because we don't want to share our data with Amazon's racket of selling data to third parties. It feel like a victim to sneaky business practices and it hurts.

@HiddenPalm6 жыл бұрын
@@ljptech In their marketing they promised to keep your data safe and in your home that it would not be uploaded to their servers. Data like your voice signature, mappings of your home, facial recognition, and pictures. The Linus Tech Tips video (paid advertisement) mentioned it as well. Companies like Google and Facebook already have your voice signature and facial recognition stored in their servers and mapped with your home address and phone number. Even robot vacuum cleaners sell mappings of your home to third parties. They sell this info to third parties. I bought Anki, because it was marketed to me as being different. I bought into it and now Im on the fence because of the coming "optional" Alexa features. Anki marketed to people like me who have these concerns, and I was hoping it was going to be a trend with these companies. But the vast majority of vloggers and reviewers of Anki products havent really voiced their opinions on it. It is my guess the future is going to be bleak if these things arent controlled now. Who ever is in control, be it the corporates or the consumers, will be ahead of the curve. ;)

Hello, Now that I have seen your video with the problems that should be corrected in the future through updates. The first error that shows with the recognition of face and that you are right, is the subject of light, I guess it can be improved, but I doubt that much, especially usually happen to most robots, I remember that even the aibos , and the cozmo itself happens the same. The second problem Hearing range, is quite curious, I have seen in other videos that have used a measured sound, and it shows that it needs to be improved. Being a robot and toy, the speakers that will have integrated will be quite limited, and I really have some concern when Anki updated their Vector to be compatible with Alexa, from my personal point I will never be a personal assistant like alexa or google home, they have been specifically designed to perform these activities. The third Scanning Around problem is quite interesting as the distance you have to find it costs a bit of work. Have you tried to illuminate the charging base to rule out a light problem? I'm sure this problem can be solved. My personal opinion is that Vector has been programmed to be an assistant who does not have a route superior to a desk, and for that reason at the moment you have this problem. The fourth failure on the issue of delay when consulting a question, it is obvious that it is because they have not yet been able to optimize the snapdragon, to try to cut the time to respond, but really it is a pity, because Vector is sold and enjoyed as an assistant robot. It is one of the virtues that stands out about his younger brother Cozmo. The question I ask myself and ask you on a personal level, is it really worth acquiring a Vector in Beta phase? I am a possessor of a Cozmo, and I am really delighted with it. Many believe that the question is asked if it is better a cozmo or a vector, even many will think it is better to wait for Anki to have more updates released to be acquired. It is true that the SDK will be out soon, and it will be the community that offers more news to Vector and Anki can take advantage of these functions. I understand that it is a personal question, and each one has to look at their point of view, see how evolved vector or if we have to see vector spend the months until new updates are coming out and we have the problem that the battery is degraded.

Addressing the issue with the database is simple. Vector may require the additional "I have a question" step, but if you don't like that its not a big deal because Vector also has Alexa built in so you may also use "Hey Alexa" and use Alexa's database instead, which is much better.

I just actually uploaded a video showing some of the issues I am having with mine and my top issue is facial recognition. I have taught him my name several times and then will ask him what my name is and get a big fat I don't know from him. I have had him in my living room which is very well lit and am just having hell getting him to know who I am or remember. I have tried to teach him my name and he would get hung up on the facial recognition part as well. My daughter spent a nice chunk of time trying to teach him her name because he kept calling her my son's name. I have also noticed him getting lost or hung up on things as well as well as struggling to align himself on the charging dock. I usually have to get up and put him on the dock because if not he will get on and move off get on and move off till he goes dead. I have had him stuck facing my tv stand until I have moved him. Like he didn't know it was there. I have also seen that the cube has to be fairly close to him for him to see it. I have asked him to do a trick and if the cube isn't super close he will search for it and then give up more or less. As for asking him questions. I have asked mine all sorts of things and he usually does not respond to me at all. He just turns around and goes the other way. I don't think he was ready to be released yet. I think they tried to push for an earlier release with Xmas and he wasn't ready. He seems to be very, very glitchy. Hopefully they fix some of this stuff.

I think the data privacy issue is at play here. My understanding is that the really smart systems tend to share more recorded data where the less smart systems (such as apple’s Siri and Anki Vector) don’t send as much data back to cloud servers. Unfortunately as things stand, I don’t think you can have the best of both worlds. Paul

Not only do I agree with everything in this video , the idea of having adult base content in vector is an incredible idea , Anki can easily find a way to add a adult base content by confirming age , now I'm not asking for vector to speak profanity but more adult base content would be nice , I'm sure Anki will do thing very very very very slooooowww as they did with cozmo which I have to say is a huge draw back , they should have release vector with as much personality as cozmo , vector is exactly like cozmo was when you open him the first day he was released kinda boring it took over a year for cozmo to get updated to the point where vector should be right out the box ....

I think Vector is marketed as a desktop or tabletop companion and appears to operate in that capacity quite ok. It should improve with future updates but probably shouldn't be let loose on the floor because it is so small it would be killed by a cat. There has been a lot of attempts to make the ultimate robot companion and many fall way short but I think Vector will go some of the way and possibly a bigger, more capable robot will evolve from this one.

Hi. I find that Vector has very long range hearing. Mine does have trouble following the "Come Here" command. Once I provided enough light, Vector learned to recognize me from a decent distance. This will be fixed by ANKI. I have only recently noticed a 915 error code. Otherwise Vector is doing well for only a one and a half month old product. Thank you so much for the vid. Finally someone has made a vid to address the most crucial and deep issues I have noticed in other videos but seems nobody wants to talk about. These are all very valid concerns and are the main reason I haven't made the purchase yet. Also he should have a first person manual drive mode like Cozmo...very simple to implement. I am also concerned about his battery duration...he was marketed to have almost an hour of "play" time between charging but the other day an Anki rep told me to expect 20 minutes of play between charges or 2 hours of idle sleep off charger. Big discrepancy vs how he was marketed.

Great video, most Vector videos are mostly hands-ons and they didnt talk much about the negatives. From what I've gathered, Vector is mainly a table top guy much like Cozmo which probably explains why right now doesn't do well with commands from anywhere more than 2-3 meters as you said. As for interactivity, I agree, Vector does not do much right now, but Hopefully Anki doesn't take too long to add new stuff via firmware updates, Response time is definitely slow, hoping to see him respond just as fast as responding to "Hey Vector" or just as good as the asistant thingies like Googles one and Amazon's Echo. Will have to wait and see. If you are not in that much of a hurry, for those who want to get Vector, wait for a few months and see what happens then.

Face recognition, even high quality SLR cameras need to be adjusted for backlighting so you are bringing that problem on yourself with terrible lighting . Hearing you , yelling at it across the room while its surrounded by other objects isn't going to do anything but confuse its highly attuned powerful four-microphone array for directional hearing note the way it turned to what the sound bounced of ? , the sound will be bouncing off everything it's not an amazon dot . Getting stuck , well yes it has an infrared laser to detect objects in front of it , as far as it knew the way in front of it was clear so it got under something then was restricted by headroom , i don't suppose Anki were thinking about people allowing them to roam into spaces like that , Question delay , one of the reasons you need a command to trigger the question response is because of its security features , your words are only listened to when you say HEY VECTOR , then them words are sent to the cloud and turned into a text file , used for whatever then erased , when you ask it a question it uses a more traditional method of just looking it up directly using the cloud , once again it's not an Amazon dot . the database is fine , it just doesn't like your accent it answered both questions for me accurately first time i tried >> kzbin.info/www/bejne/oaaoe4Rvq7CAmdk

Hey I hope you all are having a nice Christmas Eve. I got Vector squared away on his charge base. Gotta watch the dust buildup on that base. I am tempted to activate his Alexa functions but I have the Alexa Dot Gen 3 right here at my workstation. Catch you all later.

Nice overview! You've convinced me that this thing is just not ready yet.

Yes, that is my honest answer as well.

I actually enjoy Vector. Cosmo may be more inclined with responses but in my life I think I'd get upset with a robot butting in on my conversations. Sometimes vector wakes up and makes alot of noise I have to tell him go to sleep.

Please place vector at your living room as it will wake up from you snoring.

Thanks for your review is exactly the same problems I am having with it. I just bought it for Christmas as a present to my 9 yrs old son. Problem 1 and 2 happened often which is part of the entertainment for my family and lead to Problem number 7. Great video 👍🏻

Totally agree with your 7 points, mine is the same so now it lives in a cupboard. I just got fed up with it doing nothing useful, one game is not enough and he was always sleeping.

A few days ago, my Vector was able to tell me the time of the sunrise and moon rise. Now it can't. It's so weird.

Mine is starting to face against the wall when I call him. Didn't mentioned in officially in this video but you can see from one of the clips.
