As a former Londoner who has lived in the U.S for over 20 yrs,most of the Americans i'v met are either not interested too much in the UK or what they do know is pretty limited (Apart from the usual stuff,Royal family,Shirlock Holmes,the Beatles,Benny Hill,etc,etc)Some may consider that ignorent, liimited, insular perhaps?but they might not think that,it's a massive country,with enough to keep them occupied. .But whenever I'v met any Ex Military,they always talk about their positive experiences working with the British Military..And for those who have had some kind of experience of either the SAS or SBS they,just show immense respect..

@@aldozilli1293 no lol, they aren’t sailors they are basically “frogmen” they do land focused SF stuff but specialise in water based warfare e.g. raiding ships and secretly inserting via water, they are on par with the SAS and both units do a lot of the same work, the main difference is that the SAS specialise with inserting via air (skydiving and parachuting) and the SBS as previously mentioned specialise with water based operations, however each unit will sometimes dabble in their counterparts specialty, for example the hijacked cargo ship that was in the English Channel a few months ago was retaken by a contingent made up of both SAS and SBS and there are times when the SBS will do operations utilising insertion by air, the SBS may be the “Special Boat Service” but they aren’t sailors that’s reserved to the navy. Hopefully this helped

Jason Fox is humble, articulate, and a hero in serving in the military, im fairly disgusted that numpty tim( nice but dim) lovejoy did not even research or digest Jason Fox's book enough to note that he served in the SBS. Also his reference to the original SAS soldiers as psychopaths that wanted to have more fun is at best crude, another example of his seemimg skim read approach to research. Tim lovejoy should stick to interviewing dumb popstars and actors that are on his superficial level.

It’s all free publicity for a book which all people, aka ‘Fat Civvies’, whether your fat or not for the easily offended safe zone/ snow flake types love to lap up and dream about. Good on people for expressing themselves in a literal way as opposed to an violent manner. Especially if u scraped a NAMET. There’s lots of former servicemen and woman who have a story or two to tell. Like the other 29 in a troop or squadron. Some of us just adapt to civvy street as regular men and fathers. We don’t continue to see ourselves as Steely eyed commando’s swinging the lantern. We change the record & move on with our journey . It’s a nice way to make a few quid but it’s a limited market which becomes old and boring eventually.
@andyw9255
@andyw9255 5 жыл бұрын
The description of the original SAS soldiers as psychopaths is understandable. Ben Macintyre (the writer who appeared on Sunday Brunch) does detail a couple of key characters in the early SAS who did have strong sociopathic traits, and who committed genuine war crimes, arguably for pleasure. But the Originals' unifying trait was, as Foxy said of the modern Special Forces, "thinking outside the box" - and many of them were thoroughly decent people. I like Tim Lovejoy, but the football lad schtick doesn't work in an interview with such a thoughtful, interesting guy.

A pity Channel 4 did not call the program SBS: By Strength and Guile which would have been more respectful to Jason, Ollie and Ant. Ollie, I've read, first attempted SAS selection but failed because he made contact with civilians. The SBS, the special forces wing of the Royal Navy, was founded slightly earlier than the SAS and was originally called the Special Boat Squadron due to consisting of only one squadron. Eventually, three extra squadrons were raised and the SBS now exist with Z,X,C and M squadrons, hence its now the Special Boat Service. Comments welcome if there's errors in the above!
@andyw9255
@andyw9255 5 жыл бұрын
SAS and SBS selection are initially the same thing, called "Special Forces Selection", at the end of which (if successful) you either get an SAS beret (effectively on probation), or go on to further SBS selection. Ollie failed first time because his patrol bumped into a drunk farmer who gave them a lift to a checkpoint. Unfortunately the farmer had a fall after dropping them off, smashing his head, and to get out of trouble (maybe for drink driving), he then made up a story for the local police that he'd been beaten up by the SAS. The farmer gave perfect descriptions of the soldiers, so Ollie's patrol was identified and failed. Ollie later learned that catching lifts with farmers was commonplace on selection, including among successful candidates, but the trick was not to get caught!

I notice a lot of comments on several of Foxy's interviews raising the inaccuracies when it comes to "SAS" and "SBS". Obviously there is occasionally some lack of knowledge from the guys doing the interview, but Foxy himself uses the more broad term "military" very often and for the obvious reason - the TV show (SAS Who dares wins). It could also possibly be argued that the SBS are less well known to the wider public. In reality, the SBS guys deserve just as much credit and respect for what they go through.

I've been punched in the face by a stray punch as I walked past a street brawl, and before I could turn and put my fingers through the guy's eyes, 4 other guys jumped on him. It's a fact of life. Men act differently around women. Also...if you're showering with women, going to the toilet next to them, watching them change a tampon...you're gonna lose all interest in the punani
