"...to a woman who could not even recall where she lived"? There is a world of difference between not telling a cop where one lives and not remembering where one lives. That the way to shape the story, chief. You are an artist.

The guile dripping off that video comment reveals the truth of the matter. I would strongly recommend going to watch the full bodycam video because this is clearly a fake news headline assuming you won’t delve any further to see the whole truth of the matter. This whole event was entirely unnecessary at the moment she stated the obvious that it was a parking lot without a sidewalk and just sad that it ended this way rather than walking away from a situation where no crime is being committed, I guess that one cowboy never watched the movie Rambo, because now the civil lawsuit is going to be their worst nightmare. Some squatter trespasses and refuses to leave your property and they could care less, but walking in a parking lot without sidewalks while singing a song and acting goofy gets you bound and kidnapped against your will. She was coherent enough to know, vocalize, and exercise her constitutional rights. The very rights that were thoroughly violated from the moment the officer who is responsible for all this showed up to escalate it into a disaster for everyone involved.

@@nobodyspecial5026 Most definitely! The WHOLE ENCOUNTER must be seen in order to get the whole & true context of the situation! People also need to listen closely too, as Hobbs tells Maranto that he would have gone hands on earlier had he had backup from the start, so don't be fooled by Officer Hobbs patience at the start of their encounter...it was only to lull her into a false sense of being "helped" until backup arrived. This could be your Mother, Sister, Aunt, or Daughter...would their actions be okay then? I hope people ask themselves that.

There's plenty of this going on in departments all over the country. They always seem to have an excuse, that only they agree with. And the officer who assaulted the citizen 99 times out of 100 will face no criminal charges whatsoever. IF they're fired (BIG if), they just go to another police department the next week. They do this until they get a pension, with no consequences. So why would it ever change? If you hit a handcuffed woman in the face, on video.... you're going to prison. They just transfer to another department until they do it again. Endless cycle. Same problem with letting thrives steal from stores with no consequences. The problem only grows.

The officer who punched her would have done that or worse to others and basically continue to abuse his power when someone pissed him off. He has no place dealing with the public as an officer of the law. His training should be in question as well. So the hospital refused to put her on a psyche hold, and instead wanted her sent to jail? That is what is wrong with America. You shouldn't be sent to jail, when you need to be in the hospital. The people in the room with her were also too lazy to get a spit bag in her head, even when it was clear that she was mental and prone to spitting. Don't blame the crazy person for being crazy. Blame the unqualified people treating the crazy person. If I am supposed to enforce laws and serve the public, but I am only trained to harass people to either generate revenue for the city and my department, or to make as many lawful and unlawful arrests as needed to fill up jails and prisons which pad our crime stats to generate even more revenue, and I get shoot anything that makes me even a little bit nervous without negative consequences, then is it going to be a surprise when the public want to spend that money in a better more effective manner? We call it defunding the police, but it really means using the bloated wasteful police budget to pay for services and jobs that with people trained to do the jobs that cop will never be good at doing, and to provide services like places to put and treat the crazy folks that shouldn't be out on the streets, but not in jails or prisons either. For the life of me. I can't understand how so many people hear defund police and think that we want to end policing. We want to retool the policing industry to have better trained and responsible police, who have no Q.I, and who are self-insured.

Walking in front of cars on a road not sidewalk is not right , making other by standers nervous and not knowing what she was going to do , so yes when cops was called and she was rude and would not give id ! That's full reason to remove her from the scene and detane her , she smelled of alcohol and was not cooperating, why was she not taken to police station and put in a jail cell until sober , thats what I think should of been done , why the hospital , she wasn't hurt idk also yes the officer was in the wrong for hitting her ! Punch i don't see his hand ball up in a fist i see it as a slap or a back hand slap but either way wrong and getting fired was in my opinion to much idk maybe some time off and classes of more training! He didnt seem to be that cop , that cop of hes better than you or pushy or rude ! Idk I guess his whole record of his time served should be looked at like did he do this more than once ! So with all that said thats how I would have made that call !!! This Woman has to take some blame in this , come on she was very abusive with her mouth and did not want to listen or do what was asked of her and I'm sorry spitting is very thrething and gross with Covid and hepatitis and whatever else is out there ! just not cool to spit on people PERIOD ! 🤨 AND YES maybe officer's need to be trained more on mentally ill people on how to handle or controll the situation !! Idk Again I dont feel the guy deserved to lose his job ! In the end we are all Human and make mistakes even the Woman with the foul mouth ! Thats why I say she should of slept it off and see how she was then ! Also it was for her own safety !!🎉

I can't till this woman sues your department and wins. That your officers arrested her in the first place is ridiculous. There are literally thousands of people walking around homeless or whatever, not making sense. Are you going to arrest all of them too? She was no threat to anyone, causing no problem, but the cops just couldn't leave her alone. Everything about this from the first minute is wrong. There was no crime for which to arrest her. Therefore everything that happened subsequent to that is unlawful. Make me sick. Just leave people alone. FFS.

What is it with this town?!.It’s just incident after incident thankfully they have a new Chief it seems but things keep happening?..like they can’t help themselves?..Watch the whole video, this woman does have a mental issue but she technically didn’t do anything wrong she was just weird..I am glad Loveland police took the punch seriously.. it was odd though when the supervisor showed up, he asked to to turn off body camera like it was procedure and then seem shocked when the supervisor told him to keep it on. So in the end it was handled appropriately…I wonder to start with if it had to happen at all?..Respect of Authority is better when it’s earned, not given to instantly after 4-6 months of training, which apparently doesn’t focus on peoples rights or the constitution(unless it’s how to circumnavigate those rights)

The ONLY reason the gang member was terminated was because it was caught on video. Otherwise, he would have sat down with the (chief) gang leader and had a laugh and a beer. I sometimes take 287 to Laramie on my way to Yellowstone. I think I'll swing around through Greeley to avoid even the part of I25 passing through Loveland. You guys are scary. A small detour is worth avoiding cops suffering outrageous authoritarianism, people who can screw up one's life without cause or for a cause so minor it does not register as a crime. (Earlier, I forgot to mention all the false DUI arrests and how the cops strongarmed a citizen to give up his Fourth Amendment rights. It's important to remember that police officers have a higher standard of conduct. They are expected to handle situations professionally and within the boundaries of the law. They are literally trained for it! Striking a restrained individual goes against these expectations and erodes trust. It's crucial for officers to uphold the law through established protocols and de-escalation techniques. This distinction ensures a society where everyone is treated with respect. This type of behavior from police officers hurts EVERYBODY. It hurts the police and it hurts society as a whole. You should blame him and any other cop who carries themselves in this manner.

I watched the full video. The chief is still downplaying the situation by highlighting the verbal abuse of the woman in custody. She was obviously suffering from a psychotic episode, drug related or not, it doesn't really matter. You cannot retaliate against people who are having a psychotic break. She had no idea what was going on or what she was saying. She was calm until they handcuffed her and took her papers from her. She wasn't breaking any laws that the officers witnessed other than a citizen witness saying she was walking in the roadway. You cannot punch a woman in the face while she's sitting down handcuffed in the hospital suffering from a psychotic break. I don't think I'm allowed to punch anyone in the face just because they spit on me. If I'm arguing with my girlfriend and she spits on me I cannot punch her in the face without being arrested and charged with a felony. This officer needs to be charged with a crime. For all the posters on this board saying she deserved it, you are trying to tell me that it would be okay for you to punch an older woman in the face while she's handcuffed and seated and suffering from a psychotic break just because she spits in my direction. If you truly believe that then you have some seriously compromised morals. This woman needed help and instead she got treated like garbage by hospital staff and the one of the arresting officers. The officer who responded initially and intervened when the other officer punched her was the only one that was kind to this woman and showed her some degree of respect. The officer needs to be charged with a crime and if she's over 65 it should be felony elder abuse, period.

The officer that assaulted this old woman wasnt the only thing that was done wrong. Detaining and handcuffing a woman for walking in the street, patting down and searching her without a female officer present and and to top it off, she was searched by the offending officer mostly out of view of a bodycam on the dark side of the cruiser, until the other officer realized that shouldnt be happening and stepped over to observe the search. Then acted like a little child by snatching a piece of paper out of her hand. What was her having paper in her hand doing to hurt anybody? Nothing. I pray she or her family sue the hell out of the whole department.
