I like your honesty with these show homes rather than praising everything. Some of the things you mentioned are things we normal people will think about but also you bring a different perspective that I wouldn't have thought about like the door next to the stairs. Great observations 👍

In this home I would make the dining room the livingroom and the living room the dinning room. Closer to the kitchen and bathroom. Very bright and open. You both could have your own study/office area.

Another great viewing, boys. It does make me chuckle when new builds are given such noble, aristocratic names, lol. The whole of this house would easily fit in the hall at the actual Highclere, hahaha. Imagine the Dowager Countess Maggie Smith rolling up one day for tea and casting her gimlet eye over this house in the middle of the grand hallway! I quite liked this property though I wholly agree about the door to the pressure tank being right in front of the top of the stairs, it really DOES scream 'Death Becomes Her'. I love that film.

The dining room I would turn into a kids play/chill room. Also why is the electric box on the wall in the hallway?? Looks wierd! The kitchen space is small too, just a strange layout downstairs, doesnt flow for family living.

Thanks Elliot! How fun it is looking at houses. It's so nice to have NEW options for you and Matt. I prefer old constitution for myself, but most people like shinny new homes. Good luck, can't wait to see what you've picked out for your new home. All the finishings are fun and make it personal. BTW, the show I mention is Million Dollar Listings, New York or Los Angeles editions. They are so fun to watch. Here it is on the Bravo network which is home to The Real Housewives series. Don't know if you get that. Any how you might get it on Amazon Prime, but you have to pay. If you can catch it on line it's a hoot!

I have never seen a home in America where you have to pay extra for the closet or wardrobe as you call it. Very old homes may not have a close,t but in that case, you just buy your own wardrobe cabinet. I love the new homes you are looking at!!

Hmmm....one wonders if they chose the name "Highclere" for this development in order to attract Downton Abbey fans. I mean, it made ME look twice...lol. I like this one much better than the Osborne. There would need to be a doorway constructed between the dining room and the kitchen. This is done in nearly all homes in the states, pretty much always has been. Kitchens normally have a doorway leading too the hallway to the foyer and one directly into the dining room.

@ElliotNMatt
@ElliotNMatt 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s not so much about size exactly it’s whether they have storage and the layout works for you. If you are planning to downsize then presumably you will be editing out your belongings. Top tip would be to actually consider what you do use on a daily basis. Everything else is just clutter. 😁

lovely home, and decorated so nicely. it is so interesting that these homes do not really have true closets. Something to consider, all of the 3 extra bedrooms share one bathroom. So the guests would share with the kids and have to walk completely around to the other side of the second floor to get there. Matt said exactly what I was thinking, that if you are serving dinner, its too far from the kitchen. Would be nice to flip the dining room for the living room. Very nice kitchen! Thanks for sharing it with us!

I've been doing the 'karate chop' on my pillows for over 20 years, just not so sharp! And yes, I have ripple tiles, but they still have a smooth surface, the ones in this bathroom would be a no-no for me, a major dirt collector so I would avoid them... and that is a small shower, save space and gain light with all glass, bigger is better and single door. Homes are very different from Australia, I've never seen so many doors, then lounge room has one door down near the kitchen, when it needs a wide - as in 3 door width opening opposite the stairs, that would give a much better walkway area and it would look so much bigger, same between the kitchen and the dining room... place the downstairs toilet going the other way - from under the stairs to the kitchen wall. Ha Ha, guess I've done too much renovating! Enjoy the new house experience.. xx 🦘

Hello Elliot & Matt! I have a question. I'm not British, but I love your new British homes and the neighborhoods I see on KZbin as well. I have noticed, however, that there is one thing that seems to be consistently missing in "typical" moderately priced British new builds: under-sink cabinets in the bathrooms. Why do most new British bathrooms have only attached-to-the wall sinks or pedestal sinks? I can't imagine a bathroom sink with no cabinet underneath to store the next roll of toilet paper, bowl cleaner, and cleanser for the tub. It just seems as though the empty space beneath the sink could be used for handy storage. Has it always been like that in British homes? Or is this something rather new?

We do not have them!
@timward3116
@timward3116 Жыл бұрын
@@irenedavo3768 I suspected that you usually don't have them there. I think I've seen some of them in the more expensive UK homes on KZbin, though. Still, I love your homes across the pond. I am a big fan of bricks, grass, and trees - but I live in Phoenix (desert) and I don't think a brick home has been built here since about 1965. Everything more recent is stucco (textured concrete). I live in an older area of the city that actually does have brick homes (mine isn't brick, though) and some grass and trees, so I enjoy seeing them when I go out for a walk.

Elliot and Matt, When you were in the hall bath, I was thinking of your niche with the glass shelves in the home you'll be building. I wonder if there is a different product you can pick other than glass? Seems it would be a safety hazard to have glass at the end of a tub. It's so easy to slip in the tub and I would hate to see someone slide into the glass or reach out and break through the shelf and cut themselves.
@ElliotNMatt

Our building standards would dictate its safety glass, like the kind on a glass shower screen.

@Adeleisha

I agree, even would go as far as saying the door opening onto staircase landing doesn’t look like it meets Building Regulations. This is the problem when builders/developers can sign off their own work for Building Regs. So many new homes have insufficient insulation/airtightness as they tend to just inspect and sign off one home (usually the show home) then the rest are paperwork signings without inspections.

@popazz1
@popazz1 3 жыл бұрын
My preference for a separate dining room is about having guests round for a meal. Having to clear away all the used pots & pans etc before you and your guests sit down to eat in a kitchen/diner would be an issue for me. I wouldn't want my guests having to look at a full sink and messy counter tops.

Beautiful home. Just wondering why are the new build homes so small. No proper closets, closet in hall for your jackets and shoes,no vanity vanities with storage and not to mention vanity room to place your toiletries. All rooms are narrow. Small refrigerators and freezers. Lack of utility closet and no or small laundry machines. Not large enough to wash or dry a primary room bed quilt. I find this a bit odd because the land most new builds are built on are huge! Why not make the homes larger and reduce the amount of land you have as your back lawn ? Basically you live 90% of your time in the house. I'm not trying to be rude just doesn't make sense to me as someone that is thinking of relocating. 🤔🤔🤔
