not only does the voice work, but he acts the anger/desperateness/heartache so well that the performance transcends the voice tone

I think it was meant to be funny. I always saw that scene as "oh my god.. is he going to suffocate her?" but then she wakes up and he gets scared, in his typical Charlie fashion.

This was my favorite movie when I was about 10 years old. I just loved the time travel/50s aspect. I just watched it again as a 42 year old and bawled my eyes out. This isn't a sci fi movie at all: It's about being middle aged and all the loss, tragedy, and wisdom that comes with it.
@marialisa6478 Жыл бұрын
you and I are the same age and I too enjoyed this movie as a little girl. I didn't understand it the same way I do now at 42. It makes me emotional too. I think what gets me the most is how we have regrets and say that if we could go back, we would do it all differently-- but would we? Even knowing what we know now? We love who we love and the things that happened to us were supposed to happen in order to bring us where we are today.

People criticize the voice and understandably so, but I always saw it as a typical teenage boy that can’t see past himself. Whining and thinking his thoughts are the most crucial and important. Maybe a misunderstood acting choice?

I’m conflicted about this scene. It’s beautifully written and Kathleen Turner really delivers. It just seems like Nicolas Cage is in a different movie. He plays his role like a comedy, but this is a very dramatic scene, and he really should’ve dialed it back.

The ‘window in my heart’ part was Kathleen’s Oscar clip at the ceremony. To me, she deserved the 1986 Best Actress Oscar, but, rewatching it, NCage’s performance probably off-put voters.

I’ve got the hair I’ve got the teeth I’ve got the eyes …. He does though. I don’t know why I’ve had this attraction to Nicolas Cage, but I have. He’s not especially aesthetically, pretty or conventionally attractive but there’s some thing intriguing and masculine about him.
