Great video thank you! I planted seedling Loquats on the strip out the front of my place here in the Adelaide hills and I've wondered what to plant in between them. I love the look of your patch and wanted to ask if you'd share what plants you've planted between yours?

Hi @S.K.166 Depending on how big your plants are, as the bigger they get the harder it is to grow underneath, here are some suggestions, that should work in your climate. Globe Artichokes, Society Garlic, Russian Garlic, Rosemary Blue Lagoon, Oregano, Thyme varieties, Flat Leaf Parsley, Evergreen Day Lillies, English Marigolds, Wild Rocket, Nasturtiums... All have various edible uses. Let us know how it goes :)

Thanks heaps for getting back with the suggestions. Luckily the plants are still pretty small. This gives me good ideas for how to play around with the areas! I think there should be an app where people can register to have their front patches be turned into food forests for the community 😊

The loquat leaves have amazing medicinal value as well. I grew mine from seed so will be waiting awhile I imagine for it to fruit, altho I'm mostly interested in the leaves for healthy tea. It's about 3 yrs old now.

Hi Bernadette, Yes they do, for coughs, allergies and many other uses. I have just learned that young leaves can be cooked as tempura! Unlike other stone fruits loquats do fruit reliably and early when grown from seed. The fruit has many health benefits too. Cheers Karen

I commented some time ago concerning pistachio trees, but I’m somewhat interested in if the loquat tree fruit is attacked by medfly. I live in the SW of WA and when I lived in Perth I remember many years ago a loquat tree growing on a street verge. I thought the fruit was reasonable but perhaps not quite as good as an apricot but if I wanted a tree with good looking foliage a loquat is probably worth considering. Where I live now, there’s plenty of different variety fruit trees, way too many, as it has a large number of pink lady apple trees. I myself probably prefer some older type apple varieties although pink lady are still great fresh. Because predator birds and Mediterranean fruit fly are expected over the next several months I’ll have to deal with that. You mentioned drying fruit, I particularly like dried mango or any fruit really. When I lived in Perth 0:34 didn’t dry the mango fruit as I didn’t get sufficient mangoes off my KP mango tree.

I believe the Loquat is attached by Mediterranean fruit fly, but we have not had that problem yet here. You may already have looked at this useful resource, www.agric.wa.gov.au/fruit/mediterranean-fruit-fly?nopaging=1
