Great video again! I love me some DT Swiss wheels. There is a cool factory tour on KZbin showing their Poland factory where they hand build the wheels. I got my '21 XM1700s from Lord Gun and they were built in the Poland factory..... Love the tip regarding the valve stem when installing tires (and opposite when removing). I've done some extremely rough riding and theyre still dead straight , cased jumps, slammed them into roots and rocks with the rear outliving 3 torn maxxis tyres (tubeless at 26/28 PSI F/R). Been extremely impressed; especially with that back one as it gets completely abused and all it has to show is a tiny flat spot. My previous WTB rim cracked after a few months. It was before the conversion to ratchet became supported by DT. Before that you could still do it but you had to source the correct seal from elsewhere since DT didn't make one as far as I know. I'm sure I could have warranted them but since the bike was bought in another country and over the internet and I didn't want to be without wheels for months, I just rode them how they were.

I see my Trek's wheels for sale regularly as OEM, taken off new bike or used for really cheap and not very popular at all. Called Line Comp 30, and on paper they are very competitive in every department. J-bend, just under 2100g, 54 POE with affordable upgrade option to 108, triple bearing in freehub(2 on the pawls side), 29mm internal. For now I can recommend them for budget buys if you can find them as unwanted stock wheels locally. They do need tensioning after initial 200-300km though. OEM don't come with Trek's reusable rubber tubeless strips or valves, so don't feel cheated.

DT Swiss must make a lot off of upgrades, you think you are getting a good upgrade by getting their products but if you want them to operate at a higher level you have to spend more and get the ratchet upgrade. I had custom wheels made with DT 481 rims and 350 hubs, I was surprised how bad the engagement was with the 18 tooth ratchet they came with, so I had to spend another $100.00 for the 54 tooth ratchets. would be great except it is centre lock and straightpull. We had a whyte ebike in our shop the other that with dt straithpull centrelock hubs. The brake that were specced on it were too weak for the customer. He wanted hope v4-s unfortunately the rotors do no work with the adapter. he had to buy new wheels as well as the new brakes. I know it is easer to build straight pull for the machines, but there is no advantage to them. I see one or two wheels where the spokes fail every months, they are in every case straight pull hubs. IDK why, they are supposed to be stronger but they are not. The spokes rotate too when you are truing them, unless you have the roval spoke holder which is like 80usd good luck truing them. Also I find the centre lock rock forward and backward after a while even though it is torqued up. The other thing I do not get is alloy nipples. I had to rebuild about 10 h1700 straightpull wheels this year with brass nipples, they go out of true quickly and 3-6months in the alloy nipples start corroding (at least here in the UK) and break constantly. What are you experiences guys? Why do you think there is such a big push for centre lock and straighpull nowadays? (chris king went to centrelock only now I think :(. At least dt offers every option in their line up.

To be exact, the XMC1200's in 29" version get AeroComp spokes on rear driveside. Same goes for DT Swiss two other series of wheelsets: Enduro with E/EX/EXC wheels and Cross Country with X/XR/XRC wheels. The X1900 wheelset should really be named R1900 instead, for 100% logic in naming cross entire MTB rim/wheel range. But "R" was already used by DT's Road family of of wheels. @@LoveMTB I don't feel I would be ready to build my own wheel set even if I had the tools but could maybe have someone build them for me, what parts did you use that ended up being 40% cheaper than the Control Carbons? A carbon wheelset with good hubs for under $900 is pretty impressive.
@and30ers3 жыл бұрын
I'm not that impressed with the quality of the cheap Roval Control carbon wheelsets that comes with bikes. My 30 mm wide 29" Roval Carbon rims were ok, kind of bullet-proof and 495 g each. Spokes were cheap 2.0 mm (400 g) and brass nipples (56 g), hubs were "Formula Taiwan boost xD" at 185 g front and 353 g rear, Roval rim strips 64 g. Total wejght 2048 g. Besides being very heavy and not keeping spoke tension, the pawls in the hub body did freewheel in booth directions after 3 weeks of use, link to my rear hub here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nombfqd8ftdmo5Y so I did rebuild with Hope Pro4 rear hub and replaced all front/rear spokes and nipples with better ones.
@DEXVD3 жыл бұрын
@@and30ers I would think the Control 29 Carbon would resolve at least some of that with their DT Swiss 350 hubs
@and30ers3 жыл бұрын
@@DEXVD I haven't found any good reason to dive into all iterations of Roval wheels since I don't think they provide good value. The cheapo Roval Carbon wheelsets shipped with $5000 bikes seem to have (or at least use to have in 2018/2019) cheapo Formula Taiwan hubs. After market Roval Carbon wheels seem to have proper DT Swiss hubs.

Nice informative presentation, good budget wheelset, just the weight are a little porky because that 1900 was indicating also the weight with 21-23mm rims, now with larger rims 1900 indicates only the series and no more the weight that is at least 100-120gr more.
@massimomusto19753 жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB yes sure good price point, but the serie 1900 started quite before the introduction of 25mm rims so probably they switched the reference size/configuration just to have one version that match that weight.

How much is entry level $200 entry level? or $2000 entry level?. Entry level without a price does not mean anything.
@piciu2563 жыл бұрын
DT swiss is ok, I'm not a fan of the 1900 (370) hub though, it doesn't offer anything over say novatec, while having inferior sealing and weak pawls. That's my experience with the older version.
@piciu2563 жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB no issues doesn't mean there aren't better hubs, novatec imo is better in this price point, offers better sealing (DT swiss has none apart from dust shield and the bearings themselves) and 4 pawls with a stronger spring, versus 3 with a weak one, I've had much more skipping with the 1900 than the previous novatec hub, even tried cleaning everything and lubing with oil, not grease, if I were stronger, the pawls would have been destroyed for sure. The 370 afaik only has 2 pawls, which is unacceptable imo, while the 1900 has 3.

LoveMTB! Horrible thing has happened. Bought rd-m5100 and seems, just like datasheet says, that it does not work with 11-46 cassettes 😭 It is designed in a way, that you can't back out b-tension enough for the derailleur to get closer to biggest sprocket. There is hope if I swivel that part on hanger pivot around to front, so the b-tension bolt is resting directly on hanger. BUT I'm not fond to swap from ghetto setup, to modern ghetto setup, and not very willing to try to complete setting it up to see if it does work, cause I will mark the part, which might have to go back or get resold. I don't know what to do. So disappointed. Now the 100% option is rd-m5120, except I was considering going with 50 cassette when my legs decide, so that 5120 would not be future proof AND it seems manufacturers might be willing to lock us to ONE specific cassette size for specific derailleur. Nooooo 😭
@polishguywithhardtospellna82273 жыл бұрын
But then I guess 1 small tree stump and no derailleur is future proof 😅 Also I've looked at ritzelrechner . DE (best gear calc I've seen) and going from 46 to 50 on a 30t chainring doesn't really change much at all -0,5km/h speed at 90 cadence.
@polishguywithhardtospellna82273 жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB well, I wonder if this 5120 beeing like a copy of older models, does it have more offset top jockey than m6000? It looks like a bit more offset, but the picture won't tell the truth. Maybe if I print the picture and then squeeze it really hard? Maybe then it will budge and spill everything? 😅 Thanks for replies, I did try 5100 on the stand in the end and scored the jockeys a bit, but should still be able to sell it. Demand is crazy when price is right. 5100 won't work with 46t. Brake outer cable inlet changes to extreme angle, and still ain't perfect shifting wise. All in all, I'm dropping the swap idea. I should cope with 46t for quite some time, and m6000 wasn't my best setup skills showcase, so did some improvements and will control and test a bit more. It's better already. I guess at least 1 more 46t cassette before I even got to consider going bigger (52 would make more difference, but Chinese cassettes availability might change by then, and we got some import heat from customs starting June) Still love 10sp, ultra light cassette, and tighter chainline (52t would require 11sp)

@@LoveMTB oh 1 more thing: GS m6000 is almost identical between jockeys as SGS 5100. Didn't memorise offset, but I think it was 3cm Vs 4,5cm
