Physical dependence/physical addiction to the level of alcohol isn't associated with it. Neither has there ever been any case of cancer-related death caused by cannabis like with tobacco nor has there ever been any overdose death. Low grade Indian black market stuff should be avoided ideally because it's the equivalent of unregulated Kalla sarayam, but it's a fact that India still continues to have a rich cannabis culture up in the Himachal, that India was arm-twisted to ban in in 1985 (but bhang is legal lol), yet the same western forces today are legalizing it due to what the science says. Sugar is to be avoided too but you don't see people fearing diabetes and other illnesses, and stopping from adding it to their food. People pick their poison at the end of the day.

If you really wish to make a movie please get into literature and watch international movies on a spree, make some list and watch it, for eg. Take a list of movies listed by S.Ramakrishnan. Watch every movie, write your analysis and you'll be in a better position to understand the film language in a couple of years. Be sincere don't get into this silly society related concern like usage of alcohol and cigarettes in movies, a true creator needn't care about this, he needs to concentrate and understand more about film language.
