Jabsco Electric Macerator Toilet Installation - 37010 Series Upgrade from the Old Manual Pump Style

In this video, I upgrade the toilet in the forward head of our 1976 CHB trawler. The new Jabsco is an electric macerator design replacing the old pump style.
To install it, I had to modify the plumbing to the waste holding tank and run a 12VDC 25A power circuit to supply the macerator via a push-button switch. Stay tuned in the future for a full review of how it works for us.

Man, adding electricity to the simple toilet flush sure complicates the process! Gotta admit I had difficulty following you in this one Ray but glad it all ended well!

The bowl can be mounted in 4 different directions relative to the motor. Perhaps rotating it 90 degrees counter-clockwise would improve the hose runs. I caulked the screw holes during installation to prevent leaks and spills getting into the floor leading to rot. The hose holes are open to air and can dry easily. The noise of the pump is loud, but brief. I feel our pump-outs are more thorough because the vacuum sucks up what is in effect a soup, not a chunky stew as pre-macerator. Our unit leaves sufficient clean water in the bowl to easily accommodate the next use. Our power switch houses a 20 amp fuse, and the wires run to a dedicated 20 amp breaker on the fuse panel. Our daytime project was extended into the night by stubborn leaks here and there that required refitting of heat- softened hoses to connectors and super-insistent tightening of all clamps. Job has been worth the travail for 5-plus years now. Regards, Prowess.

Thanks Ray! I’m pretty sure there is a marine store close by your Rv campground in Campbell river. I’m sure they could give you some value added information. We haven’t been in Campbell river since 2021 so things may have changed.

There’s always been a love-hate relationship with macerator pumps. So be sure to keep the ability to remove and reinstall that pump in such a way that you won’t make it harder for yourself down the road.

It's pretty loud but also very echoey in the small hard-walled bathroom. There are ones called Quiet Flush but more expensive and more complex.

Is there any way to have it put in more water? If that thimble full of water is all that is left in the bowl, a major number two would result in some major poop pyramids after I got done with it. If you haven't looked at Overton's for all things boats yet, they carry a large line of items. I know they carry a lot of marine plumbing items.

They sell a more expensive model that comes with a control panel with extra buttons to raise and lower bowl water levels. I think it runs off a fresh water supply line versus sucking the ocean in.

Ray, if I were to do a cargo trailer conversion or even upgrade my rv, would a macerator toilet be overkill? It seems like it would work,

I know that some of the newer RVs, usually motorhomes come with a built-in macerator pump in the plumbing. One like this model may not work though, as I think it's not designed to be used with pressurized water systems. It's designed to suck up water from the ocean.

Ocean Pacific Marine in the Discovery Mall has been there since dot...at least 25 years. SeaCom Marine Electronics on 16th, CR is another. I believe Boatland is more consumer oriented, rather than parts and service but I might be totally wrong there. Been a minute since i had a boat so I'm not current.

I checked at Ocean Pacific Marine, and they have a Dometic hose adapter that just may work for $28. That's where I bought the fuse block and breaker. They are pretty high-priced store though . 100 amp breaker $95 Canadian dollars plus tax. As a comparison, Amazon in the USA sells the same for 43 USD But handy to get it now. :)

I imagine you could but with all the vibration and movement in a boat seems most of the plumbing is done with thick flexible hose or PEX tubing. A trick a guy at the marine store told me is to use SikaFlex marine adhesive/sealant on the joints and let it cure overnight and the next day tighten up the clamps. btw I got a hold of a 90 degree elbow so was able to tied up the large coil of hose beside the toilet. Works much like a kitchen blender so its fairly loud. But you only use it for 5 or 10 seconds so doesn't matter to us much.

To fill in those holes in the floor piece, I would glue a piece of 1/4" thick luan plywood to the underside, then fill in the holes with wood filler and stain them to match. Just a thought.

Not so sure I'd want to replace my simple pump toilet with something as complicated. If your diet is correct your stools will be mush anyway and toilet paper degrades almost instantly. That tiny little hose really scares me.

My wife loves it versus the pump toilet. So far its worked great. Hose size is plenty big enough since the waste goes through a macerator. I use a macerator to pump out waste of my RV tanks into a tote on my truck when off grid. The hose I use for that job is 25' and only 3/4 inch and its never clogged. The macerator chops everything into a 1/8" size or smaller. Cheers, Ray
