The weather dig didn't hurt that much. As you were rubbing it in, I glanced over at the temp. A warm morning today at +15 F, with 8 to 10 inches of fresh snow due this afternoon. That will make over three feet of snow on the ground. I only wished you'd get a sunburn for a second, the western music saved you. Loved the wild life and views of the desert. Drink lots of water and WEAR sunblock. Take care and safe travels.

That was quite a narrow hiking trail. It must have been a chore to not get stuck by a cactus while hiking it. Very beautiful scenery.

The desert museum was the place that made me fall in love with the desert. It taught me how to adjust my Northern Michigan eye sight to see the beauty of the Southwest. I love the area around Tucson and I can't wait to return. Thanks for hiking, such a nice day walking around.

Wow! Look at all of those mountain ranges - fabulous! Thanks for the laughs (mud puddles and "rubbin' it in a bit") - Your videos make me appreciate my home state of New Mexico like I never have before! Great tour of the nature park/museum - I haven't been there in over 45 years, need to visit again.

Love it Ray!!! You did a great job. When I was a senior in High School I took my prom date to the top of Gates Pass right near where you are and had dinner catered at sunset. The sun set just behind where you are standing and back over Kit Peak. It was stunning. That's the area where I grew up. Have fun!!! Pat

Always appreciate your videos. We have learned much from you. We lived in Tucson for 6 years and miss the beauty of the Southwest (and of course the weather). We start our FT RV adventures this coming fall with and hope to be meandering west this time next year. Thanks again for taking us on your hike.

We are at Gilbert Ray campground right now. Great area!! The views are spectacular!! We are really enjoying the area. I agree with your comments on how nice the campground is. There are a lot of smaller sites. But we have a 35 foot fifth wheel and didn’t have much trouble getting into a site we could fit in. The road isn’t as wide as we’d like but we were able to back into the site. Glad I watched your video and found this campground. Enjoy your travels!!

Excellent hike and photography of the animals. We were camped at this campground and I thought I saw your rig but didn’t see your flag up. (on Super Bowl) Do you put lights on your engine block to keep rodents out of your rig? We agree that it is a very nice and quiet campground. We had to leave the desert and come back to 4 foot of snow in Washington.

It amazes me that the very tall saguaros don’t break off given the high winds that occur in the area.

From the few dead ones I've seen on the ground, I've noticed a remarkably strong and heavy duty wood skeleton. Where a branch/arm cones out it seems to be quite thick and sturdy.

4:35 *Ascent, not "descent." 6:11 looks southeast (not "west"), at the distant Santa Rita Mountains. 6:22 looks south at the Sierrita Mountains, not "west". 6:28 looks southwest, at the Baboquivari Mountains, and the pointy peak on the southerly end is Baboquivari Peak. The observatory's name has no 's' in it: it's simply *Kitt, not "Kitts". 7:14 looks west. When you speak of a north section of Saguaro NP West, you are likely referring to the fact that Saguaro NP West extends into the western Tucson Mountains to the north, and that dirt roads within it come out onto Picture Rocks Rd., a mostly east-west road that goes through the community of Picture Rocks and Tucson Mountain Park, connecting northwest Tucson (W. Ina Rd. via Wade Rd.) to Picture Rocks. 8:25 Because the Tucson Mountains not only run north to south, but east to west too, you've misjudged your directionals. What is on the other side of this section of mountains, at this point in the video, is more of Saguaro NP West and Tucson Mountain Park, bordered on the far side (North) by Picture Rocks Rd. 8:40, center screen, between the two large peaks is Gate's Pass (and Gate's Pass Rd.), looking east, and through that pass lies Tucson. 12:57 The dried tops on the Barrel cactus are last year's old, dried blossoms, sitting atop last year's yellow fruit, which apparently the Mule Deer, Javelina and birds have left untouched. They bloom in latter Springtime, well after Spring rains (which are historically in March), and according to your posting date of early February, you were anticipating cacti buds too early in the year. April would be the time to see the Barrel cacti bloom, buds visible in March, not February. 13:14 is looking east, back towards Gate's Pass and Old Tucson. 14:35 Not facing north, facing WNW. 14:48 North, not "east". Beyond is more Saguaro NP West and Tucson Mountain Park, bordered on the north by Picture Rocks Rd. 15:08, center screen, is Gate's Pass and Gate's Pass Rd., which means the camera is facing east, and that beyond that section of Tucson Mountain Park is Tucson. Kinney Rd. intersects Gate's Pass Rd. on this side of the Tucson Mountains, runs in front of Old Tucson and continues northwestward on to the Desert Museum and into Saguaro NP West. Looking southeast, Kinney Rd. runs along the base of the Tucson Mountains, passing through more of Tucson Mountain Park and onward past Tucson Estates, a large retirement mobile home community that is set against the Tucson Mountains on that southerly side. Kinney Rd. intersects with Ajo Rd. (pronounced Ah' hoe), and that is likely the route that you took to and from Tucson with your rig. 15:19 The distant peaks, now looking to the southeast, are in the Santa Rita Mountains, south of Tucson and closer to the towns of Green Valley and Sahuarita. 15:28, center screen, is not "west", but south, looking at the Sierrita Mountains that are adjacent to the community of Three Points aka Robles Junction. Behind (south of) the Sierrita Mountains are the town of Arivaca, its lake, and the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge. The big tribal reservation that you speak of, is west of the observatory. 15:54 is not "north", but west. Ironwood Forest National Monument is NNW of Brown Mtn. by about 23 miles as the crow flies, northwest of Saguaro NP West and Picture Rocks, and west of the town of Marana. Other than the directional difficulties you had, it's a great video! To share it with others, I'm including it in my large Arizona playlist, an organized video tour of much of the state, placing this video with the Gilbert Ray Campground section. Thanks for posting it.
