I remember the Sunday two hour movie but I don’t recall the Dorothy Lyman introduction to this at all. I graduated HS in June of 83’ when this premiered. Such a long time ago. I miss the 80’s.

@DAJ Well I still have the original 2 hour movie to the somewhat forgotten General Hospital spinoff Port Charles which aired on June 1, 1997 with original commercials intact and recorded in SP mode! I was able to transfer it to DVD but of course it does show it's age despite being recorded in SP mode, as tv's weren't in High Defination yet! Still I'm happy with it!

I loved it how ABC used to usher their new daytime soaps as Sunday Night Movie specials the day before they premiered in their regular timeslots. I believe this aired the following day in its regular timeslot and the first real timeslot episode premiered the following day on Tuesday June 28th, 1983.

Dorothy Lyman played Gwen frame on another world as well as appearing on the soap operas all my children generations and guiding light . before those soaps I read that she appeared on one life to live back in the 70s as a nun . That probably was her very first soap followed by AW. Then those other soaps which she would appear on in that order. I never knew that Ann Williams had passed until someone here on the comment board had brought it up .loved her on search for tomorrow. all of the NBC and CBS daytime soaps were my Main focus the ABC soaps came much later by the late 80s I've watched all of them though past and present so technically the ABC shows came into my life in the mid 80s I remember watching the final years of the edge of night I still remember when Jerry pulled a Micheal Myers and wound up killing his own sister Alicia who was the shows villainous at the finale of that show..such great memories of the soaps back in the 80s and now Lorna is playing Diane again on the young and the restless the only soap out of the four remaining soaps that I can tolerate although iam getting a little used to general hospital . As for the other two um no way Jose. I will take both general hospital and the young and the restless any day there is a good reason why the latter is still #1 in the ratings after all of these years. Ryan's hope loving and one life to live and general hospital were ABC much better shows GH can be a little so so at times but the other three were the better ones besides edge. I don't care what anybody says it should be loving that should've been ABC sole surviving soap IMO

From the first look at him, you knew that Garth Slater was someone to dislike at sight first. His venom towards poor June was distinct. And we all knew it. For Ann Williams, it would be, sadly, her last soap role. For she'd die in 1985, of cancer. This soap allowed her to reunite with John Cunningham, whom she knew from Search for Tomorrow (he played Wade Collins, one of Janet Bergman's husbands, and she played Jo's sister, Eunice). This show had a treasure trove of talent in the early years. Teri Keane (Edge of Night), Wesley Addy, Augusta Dabney (Young Doctor Malone), Tom Ligon (Young and Restless), Pamela Blair (Annie, the movie), John Shearin (The Doctors) Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) among various others.

Thanks! “Loving” was mismanaged from the beginning, IMHO. Christine Tudor wanted AMC/LOV crossovers right when the show premiered, but was told no. She knew that having AMC characters on the show might raise ratings. Odd since LOV became AMC 2.0 at the end.

@travisjames35174 жыл бұрын
@@erikandrus4387 It was when she did arrive. She suggested some crossovers, but was denied, which is odd because AMC, OLTL, and GH were having crossovers clear in the late 1960’s and it was firmly established right off that Corinth was right near Pine Valley and Llanview.
@travisjames35174 жыл бұрын
@@erikandrus4387 Also, “The Young Marrieds” was set in Port Charles before GH even aired. The first crossover that I’m aware of was in 1969 when Steve from GH treated Meredith from OLTL (he traveled to Llanview from PC).

This show tanked because of its constant turnover in writers and producers. From day one the show had a very inconsistent feel. For some reason ABC didn’t want to settle anyone in behind the scenes.

I wouldn't call it a failure though it lasted more than a decade. New soap operas in this era didn't last that long as there was a few that only got a year or two. I think you are right about the lack of consistency which probably kept it from reaching the 2000s.

Why the exaggerated southern accents and southern names and characters when it is set in Corinth , Pennsylvania ? Were the writers from Georgia ? Certainly seems like it . Especially with Perry Stephens from Alabama and Linden Ashby from Florida - adds to the Southerness . Why wasn't it set in the South considering ?
@retrowarehouse25548 ай бұрын
Don't quote me on this because I might not be right, but I think Agnes Nixon from All My Children, One Life to Live, and The City produced Loving and she was a northern girl which is why it took place in Pennsylvania where AMC's Pine Valley and Llanview took place which were fictional suburbs of Philadelphia. I think a lot of people from the north originated from the South, so everything had a southern tone to it back in those days.

I liked all of the 30 minute shows ABC had at that time. I agree Edge did not get the promotion it deserved! Probably because so many affiliates had dropped it by the last two years. Still, Edge was good and deserved better!
