The Duet trousers from Love Notions are a staple classic style and you can make them with woven or knit fabric. It’s time I revisited this pattern after 5 years! This time, new fitting and process.

I had given up trying to sew pants, even though I have a beautiful linen fabric and underlining in my stash. I have tried everything, including taking apart a part of good fitting shorts! I never feel bad about doing that. The edge always has a bit of extra along the length of the legs and it’s useful for pockets.

Updates never include design changes. So the zipper in the Center was never going to happen. It’s an easy fix though 😀

I think the location of the zipper is always changeable :) I think a side seam zipper is uncomfortable when the hip curve is pronounced.

Karina, would you remind me which waistband would be better suited for me if I have a little tummy at my waistline? Curved or straight? I have an odd figure no lower tummy per se. My hips are in line with a size 12, but I need 2" in the waist to be comfortable. I'm 5'1 and need to scoop out my backside. I didn't mention how great your zipper tutorial is, I'm adding a front zipper too! Thank you.

The two waistbands in this pattern are curved, one more than the other but you could draw your own rectangle waistband and it would be ok when there’s a tummy :)

I love your pants and the changes you've made to make them exactly the way you want them and, of course, they look fantastic on you! 👌🏻💯💖 I've thought about buying the Duet Trousers pattern before but I don't care for mid-rise waistbands. If I wanted the waistband higher, would I just increase the rise and adjust the pocket pieces accordingly? Also, what type / weight of woven would you suggest for the Duets if I don't want my lumps and bumps to be too visible? Any advice you can give would be much appreciated. Hi Karina. Another really great tutorial. Thank you so much. I’ve recently been looking at the ‘top down, centre out’ method of fitting. It appeals to me because of its logic and immediacy of effect. Not that I’ve actually done it yet! I was wondering if you had any views/experience of the technique?

I actually am not a fan and especially because it’s based on fitting a loose super wide leg pant only. I can’t fathom how fitting one leg only will be helpful. I’m not going to be using it or making content around that because I’m very happy with my mathematical process 😀

I almost bought this Friday , but HATE side zippers . Between large boobs and short arms, I can’t reach to zip up side zips. Now I’ll go back to get one

I’m not a fan of them either but because my hip curve is pronounced and the zipper just won’t lay perfect in a curve there. I love Center zipper best :)

Can anyone tell me if medium weight denim would work for these pant please?

I wouldn’t use medium weight denim. It’s too structured. I’d want much less positive ease on a pant to use denim. If making them as per the original, the layers on the side with the pockets would be way too bulky for the invisible zipper too.

Why didn’t you use interfacing in the waistband?

I did use it. I even mentioned a few times that the outer waistband is interfaced. It’s black interfacing so you can really see it. The inner waistband is not interfaced and it does not need to be.
