When the Pandemic hit in 2020 and supply chains started breaking down, Chris and Stef really started to think about their food and just how reliant they were on companies for their most basic needs. They decided to take their Food Security into their own hands, and challenged themselves to only eat what that could Catch, Grow or Raise for an Entire Year.
After completing the 1 years challenge, they are Starting year 2 on April 1st, 2022. Check out this video for a quick recap of year 1, and all the new rules and details of Year 2!

Being part of a bartering community is the way to go - reciprocal giving - rather than trying to do it all yourself. And diversity as protection from natures little surprises. Thanks for being so inspiring !

Hey guys, I am excited to follow along on your challenge again this year. I really enjoyed your last one! You might want to consider picking up a mill and grinding wheat berries for your flour. It will provide you with a far superior product :) There are several BC companies that sell organic wheat berries. I use a company from Armstrong.

Hi Karen, we did grind down the wheat berries we grew last year, so we have the machine to do so! We will probably still grow a bit of wheat this year but we aren’t at a place yet that we can grow as much wheat as would want for the year so, for now I think we will buy flour but that may change in the future. We also plan on trying out more nut flours and alternatives! Thank for your comment ❤️

I think a handful of cheat days and cheat flour is good to have to keep your motivated to do this challenge which to me is amazing! Now that you have gotten a little more established than year one do you expect this year to be a little easier over all?

Super excited for year two! You two are awesome, I was impressed you did one year, I never thought you'd come back and try and make it long-term, so, respect!!! If love to do something similar, although I'm mostly vegan, so I'd have to have a lot less animals and grow a lot more veggies. It is for sustainability reasons and animals should be part of the ecosystem, but hey, I currently have a pretty small garden 4x8m, so maybe when I move.. I'd say having a ninja foodie is really helpful and growing lots of pulses for this challenge to re-nitrifying the soil. Looking forward to seeing what you do this year!

I have been drinking dandelion root coffee. However, digging them up is a paint and buying it is expensive. This year I am trying to grow some chicory root. Every try that?

I should look through your videos and see if you made one, but the one thing I always wonder about this lifestyle is how you feel about slaughtering the animals you raise. I see the pigs with the floppy ears eating 🥑 and they feel like pets. You give them a good life so it's way better than a factory farm obviously so does it get hard? Do you have someone come in to do it? Are you so glad to have a another source of meats when you slaughter the animal that it makes it worth it? I have never made it vegetarian I need meat and this is the part that I find the most challenging in a vision to live like that. I'd love to see a video about how each of you feels, maybe one by one. And who does what how it goes over the year from pigling and duckling or whatnot to food. Thank you so much. I just want to know the truth, but st the same time it seems like almost something that can't be talked about maybe due to judgement or vitriole or controversy yet it's so much better than the reality now!!
