This video helped a ton, thank you! Once I was able to feel for the clip, that helped me. I was able to unclip it, then did your old two hand hug the jeep trick, and shimmied it free. How in the world I was able to get the replacement bulb in place was a complete stroke of luck!

I tried to replace my passenger side headlight last weekend on my 2017 Grand Cherokee. Lower access is pretty much worthless due to that brace. Going from the top allowed me to get the headlight out but putting it in correctly was impossible with my big hands. I ended up taking the front bumper off which is a lot of work but not horrible. Replaced both sides since the bumper was off anyway. Total time was about 3.5 hours. Bottom line, it was waaaaaay too much work to replace the front headlight bulbs. Jeep either designed it that way so people would go to the dealer for the $$$ repair work or it was simply a horrible design. Anyway, it's done so I should be good for several years. Hopefully.

On the oassenger side, I went from the top and used a tiny blue pry bar so I could get the leverage to untwist the bulb. I could get mine back in by myself and didn't remove anything. On the driver's side, I had to oull the entire air box out, then go in from inside the wheel well with long 90 degree needle nose pliers to hook the top of the plug and pull down to get the bulb to untwist. My daught had to put that bulb back in because my hands are too big. I heard rumors that dealerships will charge to pull the front of the car off to change the bulbs. Jeep needs smacked for this.

I just changed my passenger side low beam and what hell OMG ALMOST AN HOUR. I moved the radiator reservoir out of the way unplugged the 2 CPU cables. I zip tied everything out of the way loosely, and I still barley got to it. I’m starting to hate my JEEP. I never believed it would be very difficult.

I feel your pain. I started doing all of this, but I could not get the bulb to turn to take it off. I got cuts everywhere; I had to stop for awhile to see a few videos on how to get them out. Car manufacturers should make it simple to change minor details like this. This is crazy!

I've done the install - as difficult as stated. Wish I saw your video beforehand, it would have helped. Replaced my halogens with LasFit LEDs - much improved. A couple of suggestions - 1) if you have small kids, maybe this is the time to put their little hands to work 2) make a tool out of plastic or wood to fit in the hole to do the twist - you'd think the manufacturer would include something like this in this case.

Engineering at its finest, what a pain in da a§§, this was indeed the best method, hugging the fender I was able to position my left hand coming from the tire wheel and position my middle finger to have enough force to twist it counterclockwise to get it out. Good video.

The short crescent wrench opened up all the way worked to remove old bulb. I worked from top. My local mechanic was going to charge me 2 1/2 hours labor. He was going to remove front bumper assembly. Don’t get frustrated because it it can be done. Good video.

Turn the passenger wheel all the way to the left and remove the front part of the inner fender liner. 1-10mm nut and 4 plastic push pins. Pull the inner fender liner back and you have much more room. The job takes about 15 minutes going in this way.

I just did this for a good friend of mine. Passenger side goes as following. Pull rubber cover off headlight housing. Remove 2 10mm bolts for coolant reservoir and swing out the way with care. Unclip the ecu from the bracket and swing out the way with care. Reach in and pop harness from the headlight bulb first. Follow up with a 22mm or 21mm crows foot wrench, use your hand as leverage with the crows foot on the headlight, should pop right off. Installation is reverse of removal. Be sure to plug light into harness before fishing it back into the housing. Good luck. 🤙

When you move the ECU on a 2020 detach the upper plastic clip and then there are two steel hooks on the bottom. The motion is up and right to move and push in down and to the left to catch the bottom two hooks to install. You don’t need to remove the wires just wiggle the ECU to the right.

Dealing with this right now... this design is insanely stupid. I am also getting more annoyed at how tightly packed and difficult to access almost everything in the engine compartment is, especially items that will certainly required regular maintenance, since there is so much excess space. Every time I work on my Jeep I am glad parts are fairly inexpensive and readily available but equally annoyed by the poor design of the vehicle and cheap materials.

Hi Adam - thanks for the video. One other helpful tip: I was able to reach the back of the bulb w/ my fingers, but couldn't get enough grip to twist it out. I ended up using a short crescent wrench to grip the back of the bulb (3/4" across the flats) and give me just enough torque to remove it. All ended up being accessible from the top too after the computer was shifted out of the way (but not disconnected).

What an absolute whore of a design, used the video and a bunch of tips from the comments, but there is no simple way but staying the course until you get a good grip. Flathead screwdriver through the bottom to release the clip, bear hug from top and bottom to reattach the clip

Another video suggested a 7/8" or 22mm crows foot wrench on the end of a socket extender. I didn't have this, but I ordered some as an addition to my toolbox. Definitely would help to have either a real tool or an improvised tool that gives one the ability to get some torque to release/tighten the bulb. It was the toughest bulb replacement I've ever done. Thank you for this video and the great comments/suggestions.

So I'll save a lot of time for most of you guys out there... I just switched out low beam bulb on passenger side of my 2018 Limited. Reach under coolant reservoir beside radiator but between hoses and light fixture. (With right hand) push hoses of coolant reservoir back to make some room to reach up to elbow deep or so. I twisted off and put back bulb prob faster than i wrote this text.. AND I have only half of my right hand thumb, so if you have all digits then it should go even smoother.. Yes, it was low beam and I just remembered I forgot to put back the rubber cap. Best of luck!

Hello I found a easy way to turn the bulb you only have to unscrew the fluid box and move it but not take it out do not move the ecu unit no need for it and now open the access hole by the tire remove the rubber cover for the bulb and ( USE A 7/8 OPEN END WRENCH PUT the open end wrench INTO THE HOLE AND INTO THE HOLE WHERE THE BULB IS AND YOU CAN TURN IT you only need to break the seal than you can use your hand ) The rubber ring on the bulb sticks due to the heat I did it on the passenger side and also used in the drive drive inside car after I removed the air box because I couldn't turn by hand stuck the wrench inside easily to break the seal hopes this helps

Easy way to find the hole when butting the new bulb in. Hug the Jeep again when putting it in and have a pair of gloves on. Use your left hand (finger on the bulb hole) thru the fender access to guide your right hand holding the bulb. Quick and easy. Great video. Really helped.

Easy, once you get the antifreeze reservoir and electronic box shuffled out of the way, remove the back cap of the light and then---- build a small spanner about 4-5 inches long to reach in and turn the bulb. Took a scrap piece of 1 1/4 light rigid steel strap, cut a span in the end to make my spanner. Size the spanner to be just wider than the base of the bulb. Bulb came right out and right back in.

So I read everyone’s comments and decided to let the “professionals” handle this. Took it to the dealer and they knocked it out in 20 minutes. However, they can’t figure out how to properly reinstall the bulb. Bulbs light correctly but the aim is way off; off in the ditch on one side, about 4’ in front of the vehicle on the other. Going back to the dealer for the third time to see if they can get it right. Moral of the story - not good enough to just get the bulb in. With the magnifier in front of the bulb, it has to be just right or your aim will be way off.

Your video was very helpful, and you are not overstating how irritating and cumbersome the process is. Chrysler designers must've been hittin' the sauce pretty hard when they came up with this. - One thing I think you forgot to mention(maybe u did, idk) is that when removing the old bulbs,(either side), you have to give them a turn COUNTER clockwise, and when installing new bulbs, it's just clockwise. - I think it helps tremendously to connect the bulbs to the plug before trying to put them into place: one less thing to fiddle with in the incredibly small confines.

You don't need to bother with the ECU, just pull the two 10mm bolts holding the coolant expansion tank. Flip the tank out of the way. The job is still very difficult to do, but you gain a small amount more and much faster than dealing with the ECU. On the left side, you have to pull the complete air filter housing out to gain access to the bulb. I have been wrenching on cars for 50 years and this is by far the most stupid design that I have ever worked on.

The key is “hugging the car.” One hand comes through the bottom access panel hole and the other through the top. It’s miserable. Unfathomable design from someone who needs to be punched in the face repeatedly. But that’s how you do it. Being very aware of the direction you need to loosen and tighten saves you time.

Thanks for your advise, it was helpfull. I'd like to support this feed by adding that to re-install the bulb, I pre-checked the alignment orientation with the old bulb. It made it so much easier to align the new bulb when the harness was connected. JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO DROP OLD BULB INTO HOUSING OR YOU'LL HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHOLE THING TO GET THE OLD BULB OUT.

I popped the plug out of the fender well and shoved my hand up there and hooked my finger and turned it loose and pulled it out. It's not easy but it's totally possible from underneath

Mine was on the driver side… don’t even bother going through the wheel well, my 7mnth old wouldnt even be able to get her hand in there… But, after removing the air filter housing it opened it up a bit, still hard to get leverage and you’re pretty much blind while doing it. All that being said it’s doable if you have some time on ur hands save the money! Appreciate the vid!

I had similar trouble with the driver side low beam bulb. I wasn't able to get a crescent wrench on it like someone in the comments suggested, but I was able to break it loose with a long pair of needle nose pliers.

Video is a great help! I did this job the way it described but the headlight aim was wide right. I finally realize that the wide ear on the bulb is at 3 oclock, not straight up. It seemed like it wanted to go in but the turn did not feel right. once I positioned the wider ear at 3 oclock, it turned easy and the aim was correct.

So I believe I have the replacement bulb locked back in place where it is supposed to be, but my problem is the bulb appears to be aiming down inside of the buzzle and is not making a good beam. Any idea how to move the ecm out of the way to get access? I've tried this for a week on my '22 JGC WK and no success. There's a clip that I'm able to push to slightly pull up and then another behind that one that won't move. My stock lights are halogen and they're terrible, especially in rain. The wheel well access isn't possible either because of a metal bracket blocking good hand access. I even had my young niece who has tiny hands give it a go and no luck! Jeep dealers won't touch it because I'm replacing with led bulbs. Their option is to have a new headlight installed altogether, which is >$1500 for a vehicle I already paid $4k more than wild have just 2 years ago. Crazy
