Great video I saved $200 off what the dealer would have charged me. Driver side was much harder due to the dealer pinching the harness against the bulb housing when they replaced the bulb in 2023. I had to gently disconnect the harness holding the bulb BEFORE twisting to remove the burnt-out bulb. You need pretty good strength to twist out the old bulbs and having smaller hands helps. I recommend wearing a set of surgical gloves to prevent skin loss on your hands. I did replace the halogens with the LED's recommended in this video from Amazon for about $40. They appear to be much brighter and whiter than the halogens. I can't wait to give them a try them out on a dark country road tonight. Thanks for posting this video its great!

I must have the only 2017 Grand Cherokee on the planet that has a setup not allowing bulb changes. Driver side low and highs not working. Mine looks nothing like this and when pulling that round plastic cover off after romoving the air box, there appears to be a metallic braided harness attached to a plug that's attached to a shiny square metallic box about 2 inches by 2 inches. It will not budge. The high beam has NO wire or connector anywhere to be found. Looks like a sealed unit. On some of these Jeeps, do you have to replace the entire headlamp?
@inspiringbuilds9 ай бұрын
Hi Gary, I’m sure that’s very frustrating. Most total headlight failures are caused by a bad component like a fuse, relay, or module. Wiring problems can also cause both headlights to stop working. It’s possible that the previous owner installed aftermarket lights, which is why it’s different but you should not have to replace the headlight assembly.

Hi Gary, knowing you’re the original owner and they are HID saves a ton of time and makes perfect sense. HID’s come with a small metal box and braided wire harness as you mentioned. The trick that many people don’t talk about is the metal box has two tabs with one on each side. A tab on one side is higher and a tab on the other side is typically lower. Feel for the tabs and push the low side tab up and push the high side tab down. This may end up saving you upwards of $450 at the dealership. 👍

Very good video! I changed the low beam headlights in my 2014 Grand Cherokee with LEDs. The low beam works fine (much brighter and now a nice white light) except I don't get the Daytime Running Light feature from that new LED. I suspect the LED will only come on with full power and, therefore, won't light up with reduced power supplied for the DRL feature. The DRL feature is selected in the 8.4 inch infotainment system. So, for now I use the "parking lights" as DRLs (which were also changed to LED lights) and they are OK as a daytime light. I put a switchback LED (Amber/White) in the turn signal slots and that comes on when the parking lights are activated using the interior light switch to the left of the steering wheel. Has anyone else solved this DRL LED light feature as I described here?
@inspiringbuilds4 ай бұрын
Hi Tim, thanks for watching. I spent a while looking into this for you. Did you buy the bulbs I have linked as I checked multiple JGC’s with no issues? I know this may sound silly but get a helper or I test in the daylight against a dark colored car that I could see my headlights. Your DRL’s will only turn on when in gear so when you put it in park and get out to check then they will show off. Stay in the car and point your lights against the dark colored car and test that they turn on in gear and then turn off in park. I confirmed they worked with this method. Lastly, in Uconnect go to settings - lights - daytime running lights and ensure the box is checked. Hope this helps and look forward to having you watch future videos. 👍

@@inspiringbuilds Thanks much for the reply and I appreciate your research time very much! I should have mentioned that I installed an upgrade Uconnect 8.4 inch system from Infotainment that has CarPlay a few days before upgrading the lights to LEDs. The new Uconnect system can take a day, or two, and sometimes more to learn from my Jeep's onboard computer what functions I have turned on/off as well as heated seats, heated steering wheel, etc. And I think getting used to the LED lights is one of those "learning" functions as well. I had the DRL function checked in "System" section, but they did not come on in the first day or two of driving the car with these new LEDs. Now they come each time I put the transmission in Drive. Also, the turn signals worked just fine on the first use. Now they still work but I get a hyer-flash of the turn signal indicator on the dash, but the actual signals flash at the normal interval. Kinda odd. And I have gotten the turn signal "Left or Right Bulb Out" warning a couple of times as well, but not always. And yes, I installed the LEDs you listed with your video and I am happy with them. I may need a special harness to solve the turn signal issue, but as long as the exterior signals are operating correctly, I'm going to research that a bit further since I am not presently endangering myself or another driver. Again, thanks for feedback - much appreciated, my friend!
