must be a harbor freight thing. I kept checking for 4months, always said in stock but shelf would be empty every time I went. Every time I ask clerk about them said probably sold out. One day lady cashier went in back and found a stack of them. None of the others would bother to go check.

Yeah, unfortunately it can be that way! These tarps are hard to beat for the price though!

I'm with you 100% brother. I try and keep my kit completely traditional myself. Horace is one of my heroes as well. I use a Condor Kephart knife in my kit I bushcraft with. Keep up the old school spirit because these methods are tried and true.

Very functional set up Brother! Something to be said about the traditional materials and the nostalgia they bring. Working on a wool blanket and Dietz oil lamp as additions to my kit.

FL Harbor Freight looks like a palace compared to the CNY Harbor Freight. I called 'em asking about canvas tarps too. First time, I got told "no such thing at Harbor Freight." Second time (different employee), I got "tarps can't be made out of canvas." You truly live in the promised land.

@@ReWyldOutdoors OK, it was the one about 1/3 mile from my house, but I have more than one Harbor Freight in the greater area, so it looks like I have something to do this weekend now.

Shawn, you can also take a canvas painters tarp, soak it in Linseed oil and minerals, will make ya a version of a oilskin tarp.. I've got one all I did and then coated it in a thin layer of wax, it repels water like crazy..

@@ReWyldOutdoors I agree with the wax. I have seen a lot of the traditional canvas tarps used in heavy weather with wax finishes. Obviously as green as we are, neither jennifer nor I have done it but you gave me the canvas tarp bug too.

Want to go traditional get rid of the ferro rod and go with flint and steel and some char cloth everyone is using the ferro rod now days but everyone should be learning to use traditional flint and steel and practice with it not ferro rods flint and steel will be around for ever in a bad shtf scenario ferro rods will not be just laying around
@ReWyldOutdoors

Yeah I've got Flint and steel kit, and I'm proficient with it. I understand what your saying as well! If everyone learned to use a flint and steel kit, they'd be better at building a fire in general. You have to make sure you have all of your ducks in a row with tinder, kindling, fuel! Ferro rods are more convenient for my typical use! Thanks for watching!

@@ReWyldOutdoors oh I understand that you need the ferro for the videos not going to lie I keep one in my haversack and 1 in my possibles bag but I only would use it as A last resort. I'm glad you do use flint and steel I see so many people doing these videos on here about how to use flint and steel and then they pull out a ferro rod lol. Great video by the way 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
