Today I made my favorite pizza into a "bowl" and it was so good! I hope you will try it and love it too! The ingredients? Well, it's really up to you and what you love on your pizza!
I used mozzarella cheese, Italian sausage, ham and pepperoni. For the veggies I had mushrooms, onions and peppers. Topped with my homemade sauce, black olives, green onions and basil from the garden!
Bake between 380-400 for about 20 minutes and then broil to brown the cheese!
I didn't use a lot of sauce because the tomatoes can cause a spike in my blood sugar. I did serve some on the side for George so he could add it if he wanted but he loved it as is! Yay!
The sauce I used is the one from the Ricotta Bake episode (link in the beginning of the video) plus included down below!
Sauce ingredients:
60 Ounces total of tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
1 Bell pepper, chopped
1/2-3/4 Onion, chopped
5 Celery stalks, chopped
10 Garlic cloves, chopped
2 dried bay leaves
1/2 Cup Chicken broth (optional)
1 t baking soda
1 t each, salt, Italian seasoning, oregano, basil and pepper (or to taste)
Olive Oil to sauté vegetables
-Cooked Italian Sausage to add to sauce after it's done
Put about 2 teaspoons of olive oil in large saucepan or enough to cover the bottom. Turn heat on low and start adding all of your veggies along with 2 bay leaves. Sauté 10-15 minutes until nice and soft but not brown. Take off the heat and let cool. Remove bay leaves
Puree veggies with tomatoes if you are using anything other than tomato sauce. Add back to the pan with all tomatoes, bay leaves, baking soda and seasonings. Simmer 3-4 hours. Remove bay leaves when finished, checking your seasonings along the way.
(Freeze up to 3 months or refrigerate 1 week)
