Low ceiling venues makes it incredibly tough to get clear, consistent results from your sound systems. Once you get your speaker placement perfect you’re probably blocking the back row’s sight lines to the screen. Or the front row’s getting blasted while the back row can’t hear a thing!
Today I want to give you a strategy for overcoming these challenges so you can add them to your decision making tool belt. After this you’re going to be able to make the “best lemonade possible” when you’re dealt a low ceiling lemon.
We’ll cover:
- My favorite speaker to use in low ceiling venues
- How to know when to add delay speakers
- Are really subs necessary?

I just installed a club system with 3 CCX15 and 3 CCX 8 ans 2 CS121 all designed with Fulcrum One. The passive cardioid nature is of those speakers is really a game changer.

10:11 this looks very similar to a church I did about 4 or 5 years ago. They bought an old country bar, and due to HVAC… my trim was effectively 11’. Budgets were limited at the time, and a stereo mix was desired. So had 3 mains mapped left right left, delays halfway back mapped left right left, a pair of small front fills for the outside edges, and a ground sub array of 4 18s. It was all RCF TT25A-IIs for mains, TT44s for front fills, and I believe the sub806s. I like to talk about point source boxes as a camp fire. If you have one fire appropriately sized for the people very close to it, people 20’ back won’t feel it. If the fire is big enough to warm people 20’ back you’re going to be cooking the people that are closer. So if the goal is even coverage, you have to try to get the fire to as equidistant as possible, and likely use multiple sources of fire to share the love.

I've literally be racking my brian the last two days trying to figure out a plan for our church of 170 people. We have 12' ceilings with a center apex of 16' and this is a huge help! I've never heard of fulcrum acoustics but I will be looking into them.

Thanks for the video! When talking about going from a 75x75 to a 120x60 speaker, you mentioned that the narrower vertical pattern is better for low trim height. Could you explain this a bit? Always thought wider vertical is better for low trim height since theres a "longer" on axis to -6dB zone. Thanks!

So when using the subdivide and conquer theory on ground deployments, would you just be using sidefills?

Do you have any speaker recommendations that are more budget-friendly then the CCX series?

I'm working with a room where I need to choose between hanging speakers higher (about 17ft) where they will be obstructed by the house lights in some seats or hanging them lower (about 13ft) to have better sight lines. Which would you choose? The audience area is about 45ft deep.
