One thing for sure the color pink lasts 100,000 miles whereas green antifreeze/coolant don’t go that long. Matter of fact we used to flush old green coolant before every winter. Plus the type of metals used you’ll need to use correct coolant to preserve it. That’s my educated guess except for the 100,000 mile comment that’s a fact.

How long after adding coolant will the warning light go off?

@michaelcooper8639 depends on the leak. If you get warning you have a leak. And a new water pump from jaguar is almost 600.00

Unfortunately colors are not a good guide because different coolant manufacturers use different colors to signify their coolant types. There are in fact different kinds of coolants. In general, if you completely flush a system, you can use almost any coolant (but not all!!). The real issue comes with mixing coolant types. Most modern cars use a form of OAT or P-OAT type of coolant. The Green color has to do with a funky type of coolant that FORD Motorcraft came up with years ago that they abandoned. Jaguar has been using the Motorcraft coolant standards since the early 2000's. The orange coolant in Motorcraft (NOT GOLD!!!) is what most Jaguars have been using. That is an OAT formulation. Motorcraft has stopped manufacturing that formulation in favor of a P-OAT, which is yellow in their formulation. Fortunately the P-OAT is compatible with the OAT formulation so you do not have to drain before using it. Basically, you want an OAT or P-OAT (but not the GREEN one) to top off with. That is why the green color with an X is on it--it has to do with Motorcraft's green formulation. The newer Prestone Yellow looks to be essentially what Motorcraft's Yellow is now, so that's helpful. The newer P-OAT formula lasts much longer, so a complete drain and fill with the yellow Motorcraft, or Prestone should give you many years (they claim 10) of no-fluid-change driving. The one mistake I see is a substitution of the Motorcraft GOLD formulation because it's similar to Orange. That's a mistake as those are not compatible formulations. Enjoy your Jag. I have the same car!
