Thrifting is such a great way of saving money on home decor and making a home unique and curated. I love Homegoods for new pieces. I’m going to do my best to be more intentional with what I buy and bring into my home. 😊

Oh my gosh I’ve totally done that too. It’s like finding a $20 bill in an old pair of jeans. The thrill of the day 😂

Ohhh Jen, you got all the good tips. I hate shopping for clothes, I have to be in the mood but items to decorate my home is so much easier. We moved into our retirement home 6 years ago and I guess you could say we are learning to live in this space. I am doing alot of organizing to better suit...how we live. I have lots of knick knacks. I love thrifting to make things over. But I need to declutter and purge, before I do more thrifting. After all, thrifting is my therapy, and being retired it gets me out of the house. Its just a addiction to me. Thanks for the tips and sharing. Loved the video so much.

I’m so glad it was helpful for you. We moved here from a 2000 square foot 4 bedroom and it’s taken me nearly a decade to relearn how to shop, store, and decorate with a smaller space. I couldn’t be happier thought. It’s a journey but it’s worth it. 😊❤️

@goodehome And we did the opposite, we moved to a bigger home with 2 baths, and garage with much bigger bedrooms. And not nearly as much storage as I had in our other home. Its definitely a work in process. 😂😂

Great tips! I shop my home for spiffing up different areas- a mirror from a bedroom to the living room, a picture from the living room to a bedroom, etc before I go cray cray on buying new or what ever the new trend is. And cleaning! Deep cleaning, waxing or oiling your real wood furniture, washing all the curtains and shower curtains, throw and area rugs and blankets, washing throw pillows (unless down filled then that’s a dryer refresh) and covers, shampooing carpets/area rugs, washing windows and mirrors, cleaning lampshades and bulbs, cleaning faux florals/plants and real plant leaves, honestly, when you do that, not only does your home smell fresh but everything looks sparkly and almost new! I have dogs and a cat and I avoid all store bought cleaners due to the chemicals which can be toxic to them (my favorite has always been PineSol but my dogs have issues with it), so I have learned to use natural products like olive oil (great for stainless steel), peroxide, baking soda, castille soap (liquid and bar) unscented, coarse salt, orange oil cleaner with no other products except water (I use Calyptus brand Cold Pressed Orange Oil concentrate for all my floors, cabinet and counter cleaning, grease removal from clothes and vent hood, etc), 100% essential oils and diffusers (allergic to most mainstream candles and wax scents and hubby doesn’t like flames because we forget to blow them out though nothing has ever happened but…). I use to buy all the things every season because “influencers “ but I have stopped that but, I do see what they change up and if I can redo something with what I have, that’s what I do!

Thanks so much! I love the idea of shopping your home and keeping things fresh! I didn’t know about olive oil in the stainless steel. That’s a great tip!! 😊

Our home is small and I've been thrifting for years. Its crucial to be mindful of what I bring home and not buy on impulse. Like you I'd rather thrift than clothes shop! 😊

I don’t spend January except for necessities. Living in upstate New York, our winters can be long so to avoid thrifting and shopping, I go through closets, drawers, cupboards, etc. Often I find things that I’ve tucked away so it’s like shopping but no cost. I fill a bag to donate and put it in my trunk of the car to drop off, out of sight, out of mind. I do a good, deep cleaning as I go through each room, put things where they belong as you come across things and go ahead and sell things on local garage sale sites or marketplace to make money instead of spending. Just found your channel, great tips!

It felt good recently to clear out a kitchen cupboard full of useless things that I haven't used in years. Just a tip, try adding in a few photos or video clips to just to break it up and give us something else to look at during your video. Makes it a little more interesting. Have a great day

I love thrifting and antiquing. I absolutely agree with you Jen. I have had to learn to not purchase everything I like. I love to take my items and move them around my house to use in a different way. It makes everything seem fresh and new. I really search for those unique pieces that really bring me joy & I am constantly de cluttering.

hi Jen, all great tips...the best and one i use always is deep cleaning; everything looks so much nicer when my house is clean; drawers, closets, cabinets, under the couch, move furniture around and i'm 70 and still wash all my floors on hands and knees!...it isn't as easy now but i love those floors after...thanks for all the tips; all very useful; great video; great subject

I recently had a mop “break”, so I went to buy a replacement only to discover the deteriorating offerings of plastic “junk”. I looked everywhere, and all were made of the same poor quality. Plastic junk. I bought “two” different models sad to admit, thinking at least one would be decent enough, only to discover both are not usable. I then had the thought, I will need to get on hands and knees to clean my floors, tho I am 74! It is not easy to get up and down off the floor at this age. Honestly tho, i choose now to graciously do so with gratitude for the exercise and personal satisfaction that I can embrace my own power and self respect. I will no longer buy “junk”, only to be made a fool of, so many times, it is unspeakable. I am sad, dismayed, and shocked that American stores would offer such poor quality at inflated prices. At this point, I am glad I “can” choose to embrace my own genuine honest approach to cleaning my home. The motto, “if it’s to be, it’s up to me”, is now my everyday rule. My hard earned money will be spent frugally for quality products, I can certainly use my elbows and knees to scrub, to sew, to cook from scratch. It took this jolt to wake me up! Thank you for sharing what you’ve known for a long while, that a little elbow grease reaps quality results! 💕😊😊😊💫.
