Completely in love with the Mu-tron III !!! I agree with you that Micro-tron would be the choice for the pedalboard friendly size. But between the Micro-tron IV and the 3leaf Audio Proton what pedal would you choose?

Both pedals sound really great, but the down sweep on the V4 Proton sound so good, fatter than the Mutron. But if you use an expression pedal from time to time and don’t want to pay stupid prices for a Chromatron, the Micro-Tron is excellent. Can’t go wrong with any of them honestly.

@@MarcAntoineForget i had a proton v4 & didnt like it :/ also had a chromatron but sold it to go back to the wonderlove deluxe v2. The cutoff of the sweep on the chromatron was too abrupt even in expression mode it would just drop off which was annoying plus the wonderlove just has a fatter, creamier tone... feel the same way about the older octabvre vs the new mkiii, the oldwr 3leaf models just sound better to me with the exception of the Doom 2, that is definitely an improvement to the first version in terms of synth flavor... still I wouldn't part with the og, it has alot more of an aggressive tone than its successor.

@@Jah3lohim My experience with 3Leaf pedals... I'm still rocking my Octabvre MK1 for the same reasons as you ! Doom 2 is one of my favorite synth fuzz. Adding an EQ with a clean (with LPF) blend really made the tone more cohesive. The Proton v4 is actually the filter I liked the most from 3Leaf. I had the WL v1 before and I've never been able to cut through a mix with it.

@@MarcAntoineForget Definitely agree about the Doom 2, not sure why I didn't bond with the Proton... I ordered a Micro-Tron III, think it'll be more my flavor. It comes set to the Tru-Tron preamp but the internal pins can be adjusted to set it to the original Mu-Tron III preamp. I was looking at the Micro-Tron IV after watching your video but was confused by the Opto-mod options so just went with the Micro-Tron III. What Opto-mod are you running in the IV?

Why the tone of the OG Mu-Tron III can't be recreated in a small package today escapes me.

Push the Micro-Tron IV with some light "bassy'' overdrive and you're pretty close IMO.

Love the comparisons Bro solid! A question because U know everything 3Leaf is super expensive in the aftermarket world. Seeing your very familiar with these filters in you're humble opinion regarding the easiest to dial in the Funkiness most organic versatile with other effects and the pedal that inspires creation and experimentation with bass guitar? Out of a Wonderlove v2 Deluxe, Proton 4, Mu-Tron IV, TWA Little Dipper Mark II, and let's throw in a Discombobulator 2, And a Josh Wah From what U know if U had to pick one to be the funkiest man in the land? Just got rid of my Rossie, Funk Lite, Phonkify, Keeley Neutrino 2, both Source Audio Spectrum Intelligent filter and C4 pedal.... Also I stay away from MRX Envelope as well as all Electro-harmonics filters just looking for that rare unquestionable pure Funk quality! ✌️

I haven't tried all of the filters you mentionned, but my favorite is the Proton IV and the Moog MF-101. The problem is they pretty much impossible to buy at a decent price now... I've owned the Wonderlove v1 before and I didn't like it. I found that the envelope wasn't cutting enough in a full-band mix. That's what sold me on the Proton IV. If you don't want to pay crazy prices, the Micro-Tron IV is honestly the best option right now... from what I've tried at least ! It takes more time to dial in the right sound, but the level knob makes all the difference to cut through a mix (That's the only thing I wish the Proton IV had...) . It's simply a good mutron filter made by Beigel himself... can't go wrong with that !
