Low Frequency Sine Inverter less than $200 "Off Grid" upgrades planned Solar Workshop

Hi folks, this is a quick update VLOG for June 2024 from my solar workshop. The workshop has been operating off electrical utility grid for about a year now. I plan to upgrade the solar power systems, hopefully with a "forklift load" of batteries. Right now I decided to get a new inverter because it was the only affordable Low Frequency (LF) off grid inverter I could find. It does have the ability to interface with grid utility power. This inverter runs my air conditioner with ease. How long will it last? I don't know, guess we'll find out. This is not a review, and I bought the inverter with my own money FYI. Might post an update on it in the future if it's still working.

Your content is right up my alley. Love the smaller RV applications. I have a few smaller 200w setups in my barn to offload some barn cat heaters and 800w victron setup on my RV.

I think this inverter will last you a long time, taking into account that you stated you won't be running at it max rated load. Maybe some of the other commentators on Amazon maxed theirs out continuously. I noticed at 8m28s that you had a battery very similar to one that I am eyeing as I can get 4 cells for around $145-. CALB 200Ah if it's the same. Just wondering how this battery has performed for you?

@Ulbre I believe you are right, never want to max out no-name inverters. My hope is going easy on this inverter will give 3 years of service - but who knows. PS that is a 100ah GBS Lifemnpo4 I bought many years ago. I have retired it to bench battery status for testing. It has performed well, although I cannot tell any difference between the Mn chemistry any any other cells I have, such as CALB. They seem to act the same. Just my opinions though! Those 200ah CALB cells sound great btw. I am hoping to get a load of cells for my workshop ASAP

What is the idle power consumption with inverter on and no load?

@kidcymucks 13.7v, 1.14a, 15.7w Many inverters of this type can charge the battery from grid power and act as a UPS. Part of the idle power consumption is holding closed the relay which switches the grid power terminals. This relay is always on whether the grid is connected or not. Comparing it to a high frequency inverter, idle power consumption clearly depends on circuit design... I have a small 300w pure sine inverter that draws about 1 amp idle. On the other end of the spectrum, I have a 3500w pure sine inverter that only draws about half an amp idle.

@jamesfalvey77 So far I have not used this inverter as a charger, which requires wiring it into the electrical power grid However the charger settings are shown in the manual here on page (9) and are customizable by the user: icdn.ampinvt.com/2023/08/HT-Series-Manual-EN.pdf

Why low frequency? What sets it apart from high frequency? Why is this type "better"?

@jamesfalvey77 LF inverters are far superior for starting inductive loads like air conditioners and the like. They have other advantages. The typically large transformer core acts a bit like a flywheel.
