Low Light Photography, Shouldn’t Be A Thing.

I take a walk out to an old burial mound that is between 5000 and 10000 years old, it’s a bit of a struggle with the moon and light pollution. I had hoped to photograph it with Orion and Ursa Major but the compositions didn’t really line up how I wanted. I took a gamble of a 30 minute drive over to stone henge to give the moon a chance to set.
When I got to stone henge Orion again didn’t really line up with the composition I had wanted, and the cloud was building. So back in the car and drive back to a 1000 year old church. I am keeping an eye on this location because I know it will be good for a Milky Way arch in a month or so. At the moment the Milky Way is too low to the horizon and is not visible in a light polluted area of the sky.
This Vlog is filmed and photographed using my Nikon Z5 with either my 20mm f1.8g or 40mm f2 lens. Also with footage mixed in from my Sony fdrx3000.

Those rock formations are a good subjects! Pretty cool. Interesting thought! Agree that low light is relative to the genre. Most probably say that you don’t have a lot of light once you can no longer handheld crisp shots without increasing noise. I will still think astro is very low light, I think I heard the term signal to noise ratio some time ago and explained no matter the gear, the noise will still be excessive for astro. Forgot what I learned that day tho. 😂

Yep you are right, I know what I said is an over over simplification. Low light photography is different things to different people. I was trying to leave room for a future video to explore simple ways and techniques to deal with low light scenarios. Signal noise, I knew something about that and I have forgotten it. Everyone has a different tolerance to image noise.
