This song makes me think of every moment I've felt loved by someone, reminds me of every good moment I've spent with that people. And at the same time, hearing Ryan and knowing that he's no longer here with us makes me feel like this song has a farewell meaning too. I wonder if people take this as some kind of romantic song... Because the lyrics tell otherwise, at least for me. It seems like a song telling the story of a rather broken relationship between two people, where one wants to be 'something more than friends' and the other doesn't. It sounds like a critique towards the thought process of the former. 'Think of what you're saying before you speak; These days I can go without enemies' expresses the precise moment when the later rejects the notion of a romantic relationship. I've seen this scene plenty of times personally, and sometimes the rejected one falls in rage the moment rejection comes their way. 'We're killing off the options to make amends; Oh baby sometimes there's no such thing as more than friends' this passage reinforces my previous statement, because in rage the rejected one is destroying the notion of them just continuing to be friends because he/she didn't get what he/she wanted. 'Let's save what we can before it ends' expresses the view of the second person in the relationship clearly, while 'Nobody loves me like you' sounds like the rejected one talking. The way it is repeated two times in the middle of the song leaves me with the impression that they are arguing. 'Settling is the sign of a dying man' I can't tell exactly what this means, but 'Comfort in exchange for the promised land' is a throw at how the rejected one offered all their gentleness, care and warmth at a price. He/she cared for the other part on the condition that this would lead to a romantic relationship, or just plainly sex. But the other part never knew about that. 'Waiting for the other to break or bend' is another throw at the actions of the rejected one, because the warmth in this case was applied as a kind of pressure. Maybe I just related the song to this kind of situation because I've seen it happen a lot in real life. It's a sad course of events for everyone involved, and it isn't romantic at all to me precisely because the twist to it is that the concept of love in that relationship was twisted by one of the parts. In my opinion it doesn't sound at all like something I'd like to sing to my partner. I like it regardless though.

Don't be afraid to take steps that might hurt you, sometimes pain (and healing from it) is a powerful experience. Vomit out your feelings and let things take their course. In the end you will be better off either way. I've been rejected and I rejected, it's just as shitty being on either side. Have compassion for the other person and stay close as much as you can, but not in an unhealthy way. The process takes time and sometimes, years later, feelings haunt you. That's ok, let it flow through and pass.
