Low Speed Wobble Becomes High-Speed Vibration

Friends in this video I am going to diagnose what feels like a wobble at low speeds and turns into a vibration at highway speeds.

Thanks Dwight, it is fun having that equipment in a home shop. I purchased that stuff surprisingly cheap. The tire machine I got on Craigslist and the wheel balancer from a local shop that was consolidating.

Always enjoying tyre and wheel related videos. What's the end result ? Has mounting a new tyre fixed the wobble ? 4:20 its seems the runout is just a little off , at least on the camera. Have a nice day.

Yes the rim was very slightly off but not enough to cause what I was experiencing. I waiting for the new tire to come in, I am going to put it on that rim. I will do a follow up video.

i just got new snow tires. replaced old ones on rims. i have a wobble now. been balanced a couple times now. i was going to try one at a time with my summer tires. i had brake issues that wore down the previous snow tires oddly so i cant be certain it is the new tires (bad tire). hopefully i find a single tire being the issue. i feel it quite a bit so as in this video i will start with the front driver side.

Sometimes the problem is the rim. If you purchased them from a salvage yard, many of those vehicles have been crashed resulting in bent rims. In this video the issue was the tire. Here is a link to a video I posted some time ago showing a bad rim. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epSkkqSCn9iMetk

Thanks for the video it's very informative. I am facing the same problem I have tried wheel balancing & alignment but no joy. I have tried putting putting my same size spare wheel at the rear left right both but still car wobbles at slow speed. Can you suggest something before going to Hyundai service centre.

I notice you did not mention rotating that spare around to the front. I take it what your feeling is coming from the back. Sometimes it can be deceiving. You did not mention anything about the car. Possibly it is a bad drive axle as AWD vehicles have drive axles in the back. There is a little-known phenomenon called radial tire swirl. This was first noticed by mechanics in the late 1970s when radial tires first came on the scene. Cars back then were much heavier than they are today. The radial tire swirl was caused by underinflated radial tires on a full size (heavy) vehicle with loose steering linkage such as a bad tie rod, ball joint or lose wheel bearing. Sometimes a badly warped brake rotor can cause that. Let me know what you find.

@@richardspaulding5035 correct I feel Car wobbles from the back, it's a front wheel drive 2019 Hyundai i20 hardly done 12000KM, the reason I didn't try the spare in the front because I was given the understand that if you have only one new tire then it should always go at the back otherwise car will start pulling to one direction. Visibly there is no damage to the tires & i tried the spare with the new steel wheels.

@@rachelallison5840 problem is still there but I found the root cause, more than 1 tyre worn off unevenly which makes the car wobble. The problem can be fixed by replacing all 4 tyres.

to me it looked like the rim at the end was wobbling.

You have a good eye, the wobble was very very slight, not enough to cause the problems I was experiencing. I confirmed that by mounting the replacement tire on that same wheel with no further issues. The original tire in was definitely bad.
