Tear it down if you have evidence there is an issue. Sure you can play with tools, and technology BUT. My recent stuff, cam/crank correlation codes, hard starting and noise from timing area. Sure I could set up in pressure transducers and hook up a scope to check cam crank correlation, BUT the PCM already told me it was off with the code. Tear the cover off in

Sometime old tech is the way but sometimes you need the scope but I agree with you

Made my own cylinder pressure differential tester. Compared against a snap on and got the same specs. Cost me about 40 bucks for all the fittings and guages.

Focus is good. Focus on the problem not the technique.

Would you be willing to possibly go through a more in-depth video with the different tools you have for engine diag and giving a bit longer description of it's use and when you would use it?

I work at Ford for the engine with coolant intrusion we use a pressure tester let it sit a couple hours pull a plug on the suspect cylinder and stick a bore scope down the cylinder

I like analog no batteries no electronics to Screw up and no inaccurate readings and it is not calibrated properly less likely to fail in harsh conditions Analog is superior and when it breaks and is out of warranty its cheap to replace or repair

90% of diagnostic are pattern failures. 9% of diagnostic are maintenance neglecting. 1% of diagnostic are those odd ball ones that needs a deep dive to figure it out and requires advance testing. Percentage varies but that's the calculation I see working at a mom and pop shop.

A car is kind of like a human body. It’s a system. And just like a human, age and neglect kills you early or there are just defects out of the gate. 😬
