Shane Lee and I install the low-voltage wiring into our new house build in Three Kings, Auckland, New Zealand. The wires we put in cost about NZ$1000 + GST. We used: 305 metres of Cat6 Hubbell data cable, 150 metres of 2mm oxygen free speaker cable, 200 metres of Belden RG6 satellite / MATV cable, and 12-15 Flush boxes. There will be more cost for the sockets that all these cables attach to and for the plates that cover the flush boxes and house the sockets. Also there will be some hardware in the hub box that I'll need.

Great job. I did my first low voltage job and it took me almost 6 hours. Most of it was drilling.

Looked good, here in the US I'd never pass inspection with most of those oversized holes. That speaker cable is also not wall rated, so I could not use it. For data we use Cat6 and RG6 for the RF.

Here in the states it is most likely that the cables would get cut off if dangling out the boxes like that. Roll it in the box or use a staple just enough to hold the tail end down towards the bottom plate. So when it comes to the Trim you just reach in, pull up and out the cable tail end, attach the fitting/connector and plate it. Also starting the pull from the panel isn't a good choice, it gets busy there real quick. It's easier to start at the box location and pull it to the Panel. Six hours to pull a house with that little bit of cable? Not to mention two people? Kinda sad really.

I think the music is GREAT! What album or band is that? It'd of been better if you showed the final result - what it's all used for. With wireless hubs, I just don't see the need to run 50 data lines throughout the house. And those holes would never pass any inspection where I live.

If the home is unfinished, why not use conduit or pvc to clean that up some?
@eanerramaestas5848
@eanerramaestas5848 6 жыл бұрын
Raymond Wright Because Low Volt code is very minimal due to the fact that it's low voltage. Running conduit would be too costly for the customer. PVC on the other hand may vary depending on the electrician(s) experience. Considering most people Charge $100+++ per man, depending where you be. Just unnecessary. Unless the customers very particular and doesn't mind spending the extra coin for neat looking work.

@@eanerramaestas5848 Agreed. Though an exception to this would be composite fibre cable. Often this is best run in conduit from the dmark to comms panel, just incase the fibre needs to be replaced at some point in time.

I didn't understand why he doubled the network cable up. Was that simply to have 2 ports at the face plate if they wanted to?

One for internet direct to TV, the other for pay TV using HDMI extenders. Or maybe just one for internet TV and the other to feed a WiFi access point, or for future use.

Waste of time to measure the cable prior-to, just drill your holes, mount your boxes, visually rough it out and pull the cable as needed. Saves a lot of time.

Actually, it's not always convenient, especially when it takes a lot of wires to pass through the same way, and when you have just few or less rolls of wires😅 It's very actual for poor countries, for example mine. When you need to pass, for instance , 600 meters of cables, and instead of having 4 150-meters rolls, you have only 600 meters one. And besides of you, there are 2-3 guys, working with that(

Thats an incorrect term to say "Low-Voltage" cables if they are TV, Audrio and Data cables mate. High Voltage is any voltage levels beyond 1000 Volts AC/DC Under 1000V AC/DC down to 50VAC 100VDC is "Low Voltage." Under 50V AC and 100V DC is in a lower Category called "Extra-Low Voltage". In this category of voltage you have Data cables. Extra-Low Voltage or ELV does not require the license of an Electrician to install. 1000V+ = Energex, Ergon, Powerlink, Linesmen, power stations,transformers etc etc -1000V:+50VAC +100VDC is Electrcian -50VAC - 100VDC - Who reallys give a fuck
@lelandclayton5462

It's still considered as the term Low Voltage or Low Volt. Electrical is the term used for typical AC Voltage in construction. Requires different licenses and permits in some cases. Not to mention Electrical Contractors consider stuff like this a joke.
