I got all my reusable nappies preloved, I have around 40 now and have spent WAY less than if I had got them new. I also made my own wipes by cutting up a towel and also make my own solution to soak them in. I use a couple of old wash bags to put wet wipes and dirty nappies and wipes in. I buy preloved bundles of clothes (all in amazing condition and some really cool makes, like Frugi!!) and for new I support local handmade (usually rompers) garments. I breastfeed and did buy my pump from new, but I wouldn’t have had a problem buying one 2nd hand now I know how easy they are to keep them sanitary. We are just looking into weaning and I plan to buy all first foods from my local green grocers and making our own. I was given a stretchy wrap while I was pregnant and it was a LIFE SAVER during the early weeks but I then purchased an Izmi once I figured out what suited me and baby most. Last night I managed to bag myself a 2nd hand wooden train set off eBay (SO excited for this) and plan to buy from charity shops for toys in the future. It’s so easy and cheap to make little changes to parenting that make a big difference in regards to waste. I wish I knew this months ago when I was YouTubing “baby must haves” xx

I received a ring sling from a friend as a gift, a handmade one from another friend and she helped me practice with her little newborn, so if you have a friend who baby wears and has a baby, practice and try it out with them! Loved this vid, thanks ladies!

Same here! If i did it again I would do a flats or prefolds and covers. They wash easier and adjust better to the babies... i feel , than pockets or all in ones.

Just be careful with new mattresses and sleeping things to be sure they don't have flame retardedants and chemicals. IDK how previlant it is in the UK but in the US it's def a concern

How do you wash the dirty cheeky wipes? Thank you!

Ah so exciting congratulations Kate. Definitely wait and only buy things as and when you need them. I felt pressurised to buy everything during pregnancy just in case... But news flash to me shops still existed after I gave birth! There's no rush! Also second hand second hand second hand! I never ever buy new clothes or toys. Watch breastfeeding videos on KZbin before birth, I found ones on laid back breastfeeding aka biological nurturing really helpful. Have you looked into elimination communication as an even lower waste alternative to nappies? I didn't practice it myself but works for some people xx

Hi. I am not a mother nor pregnant but I do have questions about the reusable nappy. I can't help but feel like sh*t would be all around in my washing machine and that it will contaminate the next load of wash so to me it just doesn't sound sanitary (in my wild imagination). Do the nappies have to be rinsed first? Where and how would the excess faeces and urine be removed and disposed of? That got me thinking... why don't we use water instead of wipes to clean the baby? Eastern cultures use water instead of dry toilet paper to wash themselves and they argue it is much cleaner so I would expect they would clean the baby with water as well. Would that not help reduce the wipes used and therefore wash load? thanks x

Linka Lipski when the baby is breastfeeding the poo dissolves in water. And isn’t smelly at all. When they eat solids you have a liner in the cloth nappy you trow away or you can trow iT in the toilet. ;-) you’ll get very handy in a short time.

Linka Lipski re using water, yes absolutely - I mainly wash my little one now just in the sink with water and my hand :) re washing machine, well yes, the poo goes into the toilet and any left on the nappy gets washed at a very high temperature 💚.

Be careful with co-sleeping and make sure you are aware of the risks.
