That fan dyno seeing everything work prior to install was beautiful.

One thing I’ve found with several relay kits, is that the wires included aren’t large enough for the amperage the relays are rated for…just something to double check. They have thick insulation, but the copper is too small.

Great job, Randy! Did you step up the alternator? I'm Gonna use your video thank you

Nice conversion Randy. Part of me thinks, between the more complex motor and control electronics, electric fans are going to be more prone to failure than mechanical fans. But the other part realizes all the cars I've had for the last 20+ years have had electronic fans and I've never had a failure. But I did have a number of clutch failures on mechanical fans prior to that. Kind of weird how that prejudice persists.

Yes I’m curious as to how this setup is going to hold up. I don’t think the fan itself will fail, it’s the electronic controls and relays that I am skeptical about. I’ll be carrying tools and wire so I can do a field repair and wire the fan directly off the battery through a fuse in case the controls or relays fail. I do have some concerns about the “waterproofness” of the electronics but time will tell. Also thanks for commenting, nice to see a fellow green roomer in the comments!

@@LowbuckLS Smart to carry supplies for field repairs. My paternal Granddad did that routinely and it saved him several times on cross country trips. I'm not as diligent about that as I probably should be. I justify it with saying that cars are more reliable now than they were then. Re: the "waterproofness"... yeah, as I was watching the video, I thought, that'd be a great application for a custom-molded, vacuum-formed case. Vacuum forming is something I'd like to play around with someday but haven't had the project or time to do so... yet.

I had a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII in the early 2000's. It had a fully variable speed fan and moved the most air of any electric fan in the entire Ford product line. The fan failed at 80K (plus) miles and *AT THAT TIME* it was easy & cheap for me to get a replacement at a junk-yard. I know that 1990's Ford V8 T-Birds also have a 2-speed fan that's rather popular to use on hotrods.

Just a suggestion, dual battery setup would be awesome with the amps that fan pulls

Thanks man that was very helpful!! I guessing the fan I buy needs to be a 2 speed fan to be able to have 2 speeds it will any electric fan work with a 2 speed relay??

They’re Pro-Comp X-Terrains, unfortunately they’re discontinued in this size and I cut the sidewall on one of mine and can’t replace it. Might be time to upgrade to 37s or 40s

@@LowbuckLS dual fans is always the way to go, just make sure you have a H/O alternator and you’ll be perfectly fine
