Bill swamp is a good idea but I've always known jon boats and just a suggestion if you're a Jon boat owner if your bilge pump goes down and you got a significant amount of water in your boat take your boat and get it up onto a plane reach down and pull the drain plug water goes right out the back when water's out put the train bug back in but make sure it's still on a plane when you pull it out and put it back in don't make the mistake of pulling it out while you're on a plane and when all the water is out cut your motor don't do that make sure it stays on a plane so you can put your plug back in and not get any water back into your boat

I have now watched this video about 7 times over the last few months. I kept coming back to it. I am almost certain to be buying a beater 1436 for a few hundred… overhauling over the winter and making additions of sheet metal to it (keeping it simple like you), and paint. Then throwing on the 5hp two stroke and hitting the water. Thank you for the grab bar idea. I love it!

Checking back in to watch the vid again. It showed up in my suggested feed again! lol Anyways, I got the 18' Alumacraft 1436LT for $500. Got a new aluminum trailer for it. Got the metal repairs complete. Got the 5hp 2 stroke motor on and shakedown runs completed after registering. Been getting bits together like the trolling motor/battery and more. The motor does about 12.5 max with me (215lbs), my son(90lbs), and a filled cooler(~30lbs) in there... plus a 6gal fuel tank. It looks like the final touches of sheet metal and paint will be happening during the summer. Been busy with cows, bees, horse, garden, and more here on the homestead. Thank you again! There is a VERY good chance that I will be getting (in a year or two) a new injected Suzuki 9.9hp... and converting it to a 20hp. Should be able to cruise at around 34mph max if I do that... or low 20s @ half throttle.

Two years later this motor is going strong kzbin.infoUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite

Just caught this build on KZbin. That's the best lightweight flooring I've seen yet. Even adds some of your lost flotation from the center seat, maybe all of it. Curious how the freshwater trolling motor has lasted in the salt? And how has the transom held up? Looks like there may be a lot of leverage from the high engine mount position. Beautiful, neat job.

Nice boat, I like it. There’s only one change I’d make to it. I’d get a Go Devil longtail with a 6.5 horsepower Vangaurd instead of a cheap 2 stroke. Theres 3 main reasons for that: 1. I want the ability to go through mud with my main motor without damaging it. Outboards can do it but it’s not good for them. You get all the mud in your cooling passages and it ends up clogging them. 2. The motor is not something I would cheap out on. I want something that I know will be reliable and last a long time. It runs you $2300 but it’s worth it. You’ll have the thing forever. We have a Go Devil with a 21 horsepower Vanguard that has lasted 32 years and is still going strong. 3. I’d rather support an American company than buy something from overseas.

This was a great project , I mainly fly fish the flats and wanted a flats boat but let’s face it there expensive! Especially now, I mostly fish alone , but wanted something that I could take a buddy with , I decided to make a nano flats skiff from a donor boat , after a long search I finally found an 11’ ft 1965 Cacci craft three seat fiberglass V hull and trailer for $250 bucks , it needed the transom replaced and they needed a title and registration that cost me $91 bucks , next a motor found a 1977 - 15 horse Johnson that I picked up off of Craigslist for $200 bucks that hadn’t been run for 8 yrs it to needed work , so I found an old guy that works on old motors thats redoing the motor , I’ll be taking out the forward seat putting down a floor and front casting platform with storage under it , like your boat the mid seat Will have storage there and a hatch I’ll have to put some flotation back in the bow area , buy the time I’m done I’ll have total maybe $1200-1300, already got a 45 lb thrust minncota rip tide saltwater trolling motor & battery, I’ll make a bracket to bow mount it , starting to put things together in between the rainy weather, it weighs approx, 250 lbs and you don’t even know it’s behind the truck , this is a fun project and I can’t wait to get it on the water !

@LowCountryFishing
@LowCountryFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Motor mount was home made with 2x6 treated pine the sides were aluminum channeling. The throttle was pvc pipe that I heated on the end to mold over the throttle handle then pinned in place.

How did the flooring hold up on the thin plastic?
@LowCountryFishing
@LowCountryFishing Жыл бұрын
The R5? Decent. The liquid nails I used actually melted the foam so I wound up bolting it in place with a 90° bracket.

What about the foam decking on the plastic wall board? Did it stick well or is there peeling?
@LowCountryFishing

@@andrewhiserodt2900 the liquid nais didn’t stick well. It kinda melted the foam. I used clear silicone to re-adhere it and it worked better.

Don’t remove any foam from your boat it keeps it from sinking. You will eventually take on water if you remain a life long boater. There are many unexpected reasons why it can happen.
