Good review, a solid option. I like rucksacks like this - quite simple, but with some handy features. These old reviews also have a use - we can compare older models with the new stuff - seeing if manufacturers have evolved successful designs, or rolled out totally new stuff... etc. If I have a grievance with some of the new options - it's the tendency for the sternum straps to be retained on the shoulder straps via little tubular sections of material - a clip of sorts slides up and down the tube sections, for adjustment... It always strikes me that these design aren't massively strong, and would be awkward to fashion a repair with. Berghaus still have 1-2 designs where there is a loop of material which goes wholly around the shoulder strap (the military-esque range) - which, can iirc still be bought as a single/replacement item.

I have a question: which backpack has a more comfortable suspension system when loaded: Lowe Alpine Alpine Ascent 40 : 50 or Lowe Alpine Halcyon. Both packs looks quite similar. Ascent has a Moulded suspension system. Halcyon has a Tri Flex system. Anybody can compare this two packs - comfortable carying and durability. Best regards and sorry for my english

Thought it was a great pack, ripped whilst stuffing a thermal layer back into pack on 1st serious outing.Having massive probs with Lowe Alpine refusing replacement. Weakness at stitching anchor point of reinforced flap. Rip occurs on the 330 Dernier face fabric just at the stitch line of the flap. It's now the most expensive shopping bag I have ever had. Get more use out of a supermarkets bag for life. will never buy Lowe Alpine again.
