I nearly didn't buy the 450 AW II after seeing this review but the number of positive reviews on other channels convinced me to give it go, and I'm glad I did. I have owned this bag for over 3 months now and I carry it nearly everyday. I have quite a lot of gear so it is heavy but it has proven to be a very comfortable carry. Unlike the demonstration in this review, once the bag has some weight in it, it will stand upright and remain very stable, it has never fallen over in the time I've owned it, and I have set it down on all types of terrain. It seems as though this review has been carried out on an empty bag in a studio environment and the reviewer has never actually used the bag in a real life scenario for any length of time at all. Don't let this review of the Lowepro ProTactic BP AW II be the reason you didn't research this bag further, it is an excellent, well thought out and constructed camera backpack.

Traveled with this bag, loaded up, planes, trains, autos, hiking, rain & sun. No problems with access. Zippers are sturdy and work great. I have almost 1,000 shots after 2 weeks on the road. Yes, I abused the bag and contents are still working. Most comfortable backpack I have owned. Only negative is that I finally have something that will load all my stuff and it is heavy. I am downsizing my laptop to save weight. Obviously, this pack isn't for you but will be excellent for most other photographers.

Quick question: Would you recommend this bag to someone who frequently travels by air? I’m concerned about its size and weight. While the dimensions might meet FAA guidelines, the bag's weight of over 2.5 kilos is a significant concern, especially since most airlines have a limit of 6-8 kilos.

I was looking at the lowpro and gitzo 30L in the end I went for the low pro because it felt more comfy to wear and I can fit a ton of stuff in it, a 600mm sigma, 24-70 L, 70-200L, 100mm Macro and still space for other stuff. The main thing for me was easy access to my gear and the side access opens up better than most nice and wide and the top access is great for getting out the 600mm which I keep in the centre with body attached, having the hard top just keeps it safe and secure and I can get it out quick and pull out the 200mm from the side no problem. Sometimes it does fall over but you can fix that if you put a rod in the two notches at the bottom. Heavy when fully loaded but overall happy with it.

The reason your 350AW is drooping down so low is because you have the shoulder harness extended to its maximum extent. It doesn't come configured that way out of the box, so you would have deliberately extended them. Granted the capacity of the 350AW may have been an issue for you, but the problem you described is just user error. Criticism should be thoughtful and honest.

I think that he had it so low was to try and get the hip belt on his hips not round his waist/belly where it is not as supportive. I am looking at the 450 as I want a bigger bag than my Lowepro Mini Trekker who's lower belt fits round my waist not my hips; it does control unwanted movement though. The Mini Trekker has been all over the place with me and loaded to the hilt but it too does not stand upright.

I am using this pack now. And I like it. I totally agree with the need a hard flat bottom and that the backpack should be able to stand up. And I wish they had a 550 even just a little bigger. Perhaps would not want to carry full, but larger would be handy for the top of the line pack.

Entertaining review, but a few comments. Not sure what your issue is with the zippers. Mine are smooth and work flawlessly. Regarding your 1995 comment, and even taking into account that this video is 5 years old as I am watching it, by the looks of your laptop, it IS still 1995 😅. I also think you gave Lowepro some great adice to make this bag almost perfect. A rigid bottom would be a great update to this bag. The other thing I would suggest would be a front zippered compartment so that access can be had to small items like cleaning cloths or sd cards, etc. without having to completely open up the rear clamshell. And the side access pockets only need 1 zipper. 2 are overkill and kinda useless. I enjoyed the review, but I am glad I didn't take your advice because despite it's couple minor issues, its the best bag of the many I have owned to date.

why would you need that bag to stand up by itself? the opening is on the back so you need to put it laying on the ground to get your camera out. in the airport you ussually stand near something so lean it over a wall or something. if youre the guy standing in the middle of a room lean it to your leg if its such a big problem with standing upright. i think its a great bag i go on motorcycle also and its the best i think for that purpose. anyway nice review just the complaining of it falling over was exagerate for the rest of the normal users

You clearly complaining to a very slight problem on this on well in fact 90% are good about it. My solution for this if you want to make it stand, pull out the bag cover underneath. The easy side access, top protection, compartments, adjustable chest strap, internal paddings, etc. You can do better in reviewing items. Lol

Good review, but seemed a little bit of just negatives on the bag. I saw people who talked about getting the Tenba Axis. Nice looking bag. And for camera work it might be okay (not sure). I've heard some say that cameras can get a bit heavy so I'd be careful considering the Tenba Axis. The backpack shoulder straps are anchored to the back panel that is the opening to the main compartment. "So what?", you say. Well, that means all that camera weight is resting on the strength of the zipper that closes the main compartment. I'm not a camera guy, but I spent a career working in a field where a good backpack that can handle a lot of weight never relied on a zipper system to carry that weight. Now I'm not sure the molle system on the ProTactic is the same as a standard molle system (compatible), but it seems the bag is sturdy and customizable.

Consider being more thoughtful on your criticism. That said, I understand the standing upright in an AW bag. I had the same caselogic pack you have. I have yet to find a pack that has the well-thoughtout padded bottom found on the caselogic. I pounded that pack into mud, snow, rain, storms, concrete, thick wet grasses, and more. Performed beautiful. Although the Lowepro doesn't have this, it's still an AW bag. Yes, the Lowepro is susceptible to becoming dirty, but it's still an AW bag.

@@TrilogyVisualMedia The one on Amazon for $100 off is the old model. They now have a new verion - check the model number - if it ends in '1', it's the old version. The new version ends with '2'. The new version is a bit taller, but skinnier, and the internal dimensions are bigger. And the newer one has better padding system. I've been researching bags for days and pretty much narrowed it down to the AW 450 II or the Shootout 32l 2. I really appreciate your review as it's the one thing making me hesitate. The only thing preventing me from the AW 450 is the inability to stand it up - but I may get it anyway and just cut the rain cover out and keep it somewhere else. I checked it out at a local store (the old version) and it did stand up when I took the rain cover out of the pocket. There is no perfect bag, but if all I have to do is remove the raincover and store it somewhere else to get the closest bag possible, then I can live with that. What a flimsy product review. I do use this bag for + 2 years and it is better than beyound the critics. How about bring more the positive aspect up ? e.g. Learn how to adjust the waist belt ! and.... taking out the rain cover from its storage compartment makes the bag standing! Others did find this out as well !!!

This guy obviously never used this backpack. He just hate life and go on complain about some random bullshit. This backpack will stand up straight when you have some weight in it. Second, it is a all weather backpack that's why it has rain cover. Third, zipper never get stuck unless you pull the zipper straight up like this guy. Lastly, please remove the lame ass jokes.

This whole video and you talk nothing about how much and what you can fit in it...

Rips on people for not reviewing the bag after using it for extended periods of time, then proceeds with his review that doesn't mention anything new. Also, you can tighten the straps if the bag is hanging too low. If this vid was titled; "Reasons I don't like the Lowepro ProTactic BP AW II" it'd make more sense.

This bag is awesome. Remove the cover from bottom. The bag will stand up perfectly. And personaly... you don't even speak about opening directly your bag from behind without taking it of. Stupid review...

Don't like that backpack. It should have 2 side pockets (for water and tripod), besides the straps on the back. I really don't like that you have to buy extra stuff (like a water bottle container) that the bag should include in the first place. This video sucks also.
