From Wikipedia:
The Lower Ninth Ward is a neighborhood in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. As the name implies, it is part of the 9th Ward of New Orleans. The Lower Ninth Ward is often thought of as the entire area within New Orleans downriver of the Industrial Canal; however, the City Planning Commission divides this area into the Lower Ninth Ward and Holy Cross neighborhoods.
The term "Lower" refers to its location farther towards the mouth of the Mississippi River, downriver, "down" or "below" the rest of the city. The 9th Ward, like all wards of New Orleans, is a voting district. The 9th Ward was added as a voting district in 1852. The Lower 9th Ward is composed of Ward 9 Districts 1, 2, 4, and 7 which make up the Holy Cross Area and Ward 9 Districts 3, 5, 6, and 8. Higher voting district numbers in the 9th Ward (8-27) are on the upriver side of the Industrial Canal. The area came to international attention for its devastation in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

As a New Orleans native seeing this sickens me to my stomach! After almost 20 years since Katrina parts of the city still looks like a dump!!! Yet the residents still tolerate this crap it's unbelievable what people are willing to tolerate and accept. This has to be a special kind of evil to allow your voter base to live like this shameful.

It's not about the people tolerating it, they're largely poor and have no means to or voice to get the state or federal government to help. People need dignifying jobs that pay a living wage.

Tf are they supposed to do get up and leave? They live in poverty most people in the lower 9th don’t even own cars

Looks good! Asfalted streets, garbage trucks, street signs, garbage cans, spacious houses, lots of green areas (Even tho the day is cloudy and it looks like autum season)... Maybe there are no enough side walks, but most people seem to have at least one car per house... overall it's pretty decent, even for USA standarts.

It may look good from the car, but its a likely dangerous, looks can be decieving, it did look better than I expected, but still a flooded/impoverished area

This is heart breaking to see. How can governments (state and federal) truly believe this is how people should be living?! There are people still displaced by the hurricane longing to come home and this is all that's been done nearly 20 years after the disaster!
@klub1uk
@klub1uk Жыл бұрын
@Donnell Okafor might want to check yourself before you come for me. I never said I spoke for anybody else. However, I DO know people who are still displaced and DO want to go home so I shall speak for them, because nobody is listening to them apparently!

@Donnell Okafor Oh so you're assuming that because I'm white I can't possibly know black people from the lower ninth ward, keep assuming. I don't care where you're from or what you think you know, I go by the conversations and emails I have with my friends, stop trying to gatekeep because you're from there. This conversation is done!

I'm shocked by how much better the streets are in the ninth, compared to those in the Quarter, mid/downtown. Honestly, many streets in the aforementioned look like a war zone.

@catherinedavis149, That's what happens when people are too lazy to take some initiative and would rather sit back and blame the government for not doing what's not the government's responsibility to start with.

I’m from Houston and went to go visit New Orleans a week ago and honestly, aside from downtown New Orleans most of the state looks like shit. Every so often you drive by a river or lake that kinda eases your eyes after looking at all the swamp everywhere.
