This was over by College Station! So I'm below the dams you're talking about. I haven't had a ton of luck on the river North of Waco, but they're definitely in there. If you're looking to fish for big ones, try to go south of Waco a bit!

Good for you for lending a hand.....been there when there was no help. Not really asking for you to disclose the section of the Brazos you were on that trip but I live near the coast and the lower Brazos is the only part that is within driving distance for me from Galveston County. While I know you are interested in catfish, I would like to know if you have know whether or not there is any reason to crappie fish in the lower part of the river. Having been stuck in this coastal area for many years now, I really miss crappie fishing and there is just not many places around here where I can find them other than Lake Houston which I really am not too fond of. Just curious. Good luck with your catfishing adventures.
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! I was fishing up near Bryan that day. As far as I know, the river is a little too warm and muddy for crappie. There are some here and there, but it wouldn't be an ideal spot to hit for crappie, in my opinion. Unfortunately there's not really much in the way of crappie fishing when it comes to Galveston County. Have you tried out fishing in the bays for some salt water species?
@dashermike32074 жыл бұрын
On the Chase Outdoors oh yes I fish the marsh all the time with prettygood results. Its just that crappie fishing was myfirst choice growing up and really do miss it. Thanks for taking time to respond
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Mike Richards I don’t blame you. Crappie don’t fight hard, but there’s something that makes me happy bringing in a crappie. Just the thought of those crispy fish nuggets is pretty rewarding. Stay safe out there!

So which of the cats, size, species, are the good eaters?
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
They’re all good! I feel bad keeping the big ones, because they’ve lived this long, and I want to catch them again. Usually I’ll keep some small channel or blue cats. Anything under 5 pounds. In some rivers, it’s advised to not keep the larger ones due to mercury levels. Flatheads have some really white tasty meat, but the ones I catch are usually on the larger side, so they get to live another day. If I’m being honest, crappie is where it’s at. Nothing beats some good old fried crappie. Catfish isn’t bad though! Does that answer your question? Or did I just ramble on pointlessly.
@200932me4 жыл бұрын
@@OntheChase That answers it great, thanks. I have heard to be cautious with the really big ones due to parasites, worms.

What region are you in? Hard to find anything on fishing the lower brazos. Im around richmond and sugarland, trying to find out about bass if theres any in there.
@OntheChase5 жыл бұрын
I’m around Austin, but I fish near Bryan. Not a lot of guys fish the Brazos for bass. They’re definitely in there, thick. You just have to find some areas that are a little slower, and have good cover. Also try and target tributaries. If there’s another river or creek that runs in near you, fish up that branch a little. The reason people avoid the river is because it’s muddy and moving pretty fast. Plus, a lot of people have this idea that alligator gar eat the bass. This isn’t true. They primarily feed on catfish and carp species. Try throwing “noisy” jigs around cover. Or crankbaits. You want something that makes enough noise for them to find it. Good luck!
