In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to perform a linear static structural analysis on the lower control arm of a CrossKart.
The applied loads for this analysis were derived from the full vehicle model of the CrossKart during a braking deceleration, which creates additional stress on the vehicle's front suspension. Since this event is not highly severe, the resulting deformation of the lower control arm is relatively small.
This is a linear finite element analysis (FEA) as it does not involve any nonlinearities, such as frictional contact, large displacements, large deformations, or plasticity.
What you’ll learn in this tutorial:
How to extract loads from connectors (history data).
How to set up a complete model in ANSA (BETA CAE pre-processor).
Working with couplings and tie constraints.
Creating and applying loads using a new local coordinate system.
Understanding Inertia Relief and how to apply it.
Calculating reaction forces and moments using history data output.
The key differences between linear and nonlinear FEA, and how to ensure your analysis stays linear.
Post-processing results in META (BETA CAE post-processor).
Using von Mises failure criteria to check if the part is yielding.
Running an analysis using CMD commands.
Importing the model into Abaqus CAE and running the simulation there.
How to interpret the Abaqus Input file (*.inp)
And much more!
Software used: ANSA, Abaqus, and META Post.
