Looks like that area could hold a lot of water. Have been to the Philippines, would love to see New Zealand some day. Thank you for showing where you call home. People like you make the world a better place. Love it

Wow that's quite a low water level, it is always good to have a look around though and see what is normally hiding below the waterline. I remember when I was much younger we had a bid drought (for the UK at least) and the Ladybower reservoir was almost empty so you could walk around and look at the remnants of one of the old villages that had been flooded to make way for it.

Thanks Ray, important for us in akl to see the state of this device so it doesnt get de-energized. The music is appropriate.

I wonder how much rain we will actually see this afternoon in Auckland.

That is some relief for us. Now, if only the drizzle will turn into a decent, all day to all week moderate rain, I bet we will be out of the water restrictions, and the overflow chamber or the spillway will start to fill

I was about to ask if it was drained on purpose or droughts, but then I thought of the wild fires and came down to comments. in which you answered my question :)

Oh wow. There are a couple of those bellmouth spillways around here in Northern California but none of them have an observation walkway across the top - that must be super trippy to walk across while water is roaring down the thing. I always wondered what those vanes are all about. Some have them, others don't - anti-vortex features? One of them here at Whiskeytown Lake appears to have a weird thing standing up on one side of it that has an air inlet in the top. I've always wondered just what that hooks up to. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXa8nHSir758paM Val Noci Dam has a spillway like this which also has an air vent as part of the structure, I'm imagining it's probably similar.
